Has anybody come accross this or have had this happen to you ovni leon? It has happened to my mates leon too. What happens is if you put the brown paper masking tape on the roof and peel it off it takes the laquer off with it. I mean its paper tape lol!!! Is this a common thing? My car is 2003 and my mates was 2001. Also what could I do about it?

I though Ovni laquer peeling was a common issue on that colour?. Seems to be affected the most anway.
Not sure what you can do?, full lacquer respray?.

nah my mate had that done the problem is the paint gets contaminated ended full respray. He had it checked by paint specialists and they said the paint appears not to be UV treated causing fading and the peeling of paint.

my sister had hers in at holders the other day for them to look at the paint as it was heavily faded...all they did was polish it up...but now a hand sized amount has peeled off of the roof! they have taken pics and are sending off to seat for review but i think its outragous! the onvi paint is awful! i have looked after her car, cleaned it weekly, and waxed it every 2 months! yet it fades and peels! awful

I think its shockingly bad.. When the petrol cap is dark yellow and the body work around it is faded heavily!the surface is smooth and clean but its justt he paint thats gone underneath! And for the laquer to be peeling off on a 53 plate i think its bloody disghusting! Its only peelsed since the garage has had it! If they come back saying nothing can be done then im going to go to seat direct, watchdog..any other people out there that will look at this and get this resolved! My isters gutted and so am i after the hours ive put into that car..and its not even my car

Crikey, I'm certainly not going to be purchasing a yellow one now. I read a thread a week on this I swear. Also, the flash red colours sometimes fade it seems?

Red often turns pink over the years. A decent wax and polish can keep it at bay but they are the most susceptible colours to be broken down by UV rays.

Seat paint quality/thickness is really poo imo.

Everytime i wash mine i notice new scratches or chips. It reminds me of the micro thin paint i had on my fiat uno many moons ago.

so my sister took hers to the garage a few weeks ago! they polished it up and it looked good for about a week.. then the laquer started to peel off!!! OMFG! i went mental!
shes taken i t back to the dealers and they are refusing to cover the damage! Seat have also refused to have the paint work corrected!
i am truely in shock!
the pain was faded before1 but the laquer was ok! now she has a peeling car on the roof!
i cannot believe how Seat are treating their customers! a car that has faded and peeling paint on a 2004 car is truely shocking and wrong! Seat should be covering this without question!

Hi all the problem is not just with seat but all car manufacturers as they basicly put the cheapest paint possible on the cars to maximise profit ,the problem is there were no uv absorbers built into the laquers which allows the paint to fade i had the same problem on mine but luckily for me i run an accident repair centre :D.
If your car is under 6 years old then it should be covered under seat,s 6 year paint warranty definately worth having a go at them for.

How did you get on with this as I was washing my car this weekend and noticed the lacquer had come off my roof and is starting to go on my bonnet. Can't afford a respray as I've got a wedding to pay for!! Anyone got a 'mate' in surrey who could spray for a reasonable price?

Just got a quote from an independent who checked it over and he said it would be roughly £1500 !! But he to is disgusted about the condition.
