The void bushes are far too common, same problem across a lot of the VAG range, they aren't even up to the 1l Lupo. Who else read the thread title and guessed one would be in the list?

IIRC about £9 each. Lots of places stock them (both my local dealer and VAG independent), surprisingly even the service manager at the local Seat dealer admits that he won't fit stock bushes on a car once it's being done by a customer, but Seat will only do a like for like swap when they are paying.

When the one on our car was done, the Service Manager showed me the old (voided) bush, and said they're modified now, so they're solid. I looked at newly fitted bush and it's just the same as the old one. Muppet.

I guess for what they cost it wouldn't hurt to pop the inserts in?

By the way, what are the consequences of this bush suddenly failing completely - would the suspension collapse as the inner part of the bush came away from the outer, and the wishbone came out of the bush housing?

Im sure the bushes would be covered under warranty. I work at an Audi main dealer and I know the Audi ones would be. Can't see seat being any different as its still VAG group.

I've never heard of a bush failing completely...they normally just split and crack around the egde. If it did happen however i don't think the suspension would collapse as the wishbone is still bolted to the wishbone housing

Best bet is to push them continuously until you get a decent answer - it's a pain but it seems to be the only thing that will get them to take any action - wont work if you don't have any warranty to fall back on though.

Just to update this - I have pushed them by writing letters now and again when I've had nothing to do.

SEAT UK generally respond by calling me, although they have the uncanny knack of calling when I'm in the middle of something and it's hard to instantly recall all the details and have a sensible discussion.

Anyway, the suspension bush failure they just regard as hard luck despite the low mileage. I pointed out that Skoda will pay for it and they said nothing to do with SEAT. The drum brake servicing they said is down to the dealer - I couldn't get the customer service girl to agree that the SEAT service schedule is inadequate and if something needs servicing in order to get it through the MOT then it should be in the service schedule. Cars are supposed to pass the MOT - it's absurd that the dealer should do a major service then MOT the car only for it to fail.

They offered £100 and then £200 in goodwill vouchers - however I can't really use that as the next service is on a dealer contract and I certainly won't be going back there once that's expired. The dealer may create other work though.

Due to the dealer messing up the MOT renewal date I've already had this year's MOT done in our village garage and the car passed.

I'm convinced all this hassle is caused by the dealer scamming me when there was actually nothing wrong and it's that that I feel most annoyed about. The car needs changing now and I don't think I could bring myself to consider an Ibiza and it's put me off VAG as a whole.

sounds like you are lucky to get a goodwill offer I would take it. Mine car has just 2 weeks ago passed 3rd MOT original bushes still good no advisories. Granted in the last year my mileage is now ridiculously low as work down the road.

I'm sure there was nothing wrong with ours but we were just scammed by the SEAT dealer doing the MOT. I also think it's a bit odd that one side was so bad it warranted an instant fail, but the other was perfectly OK (and still was a year later at the next MOT).

I think what makes iit worse is that I know about the rip-offs, yet I allowed myself to walk into it.

The goodwill offer is pretty useless - the car's next service is just an oil change and that's covered by the service contract (which ends with that service) with the dealer anyway. Even if we keep the car, it won't be going there again.
