With a Hybrid its not been subjected to strict QA setup procedures (not manufacturing) when leaving the workshop. It is normal for a hybrid to do this until you increase the actuator prload(wind actuator nuts up bar to make actuator more firm to open). This is not an n75 issue.

This is what I mentioned earlier as I was thinking this but nobody seemed to notice. If the n75 isnt able to hold the wastegate shut then the only other thing that affects it is the actuator spring.

MBC is alot cheaper and simple to fit m8. The big difference is the electronic one can be adjusted sitting in the drivers seat and pressing buttons, but is alot easier to adjust the pressure and is accurate. The MBC has no adjustment gauge as to how much you're changing it by - you have to drive, watch the boost gauge, go back under the bonnet, adjust, watch, adjust, watch, etc. until it's what you want. EBC is just sitting pressing buttons, adjust it on the move too. MBC is around £70 - EBC more like £250.

thing is.... N75 solenoid and its % duty cycle is replicated by an EBC also... there will be differences between the solenoids, just like there are with various lettered N75's........ and they have in the case of an Apexi a 90% max duty allowance also. (which can limit the boost just the same)

as in duty cycle going to N75 valve if logging..... it would be at 100% and request not being achieved is N75 flat out.

Usually adjusted by raising the actuator static pressure setting to drop % duty cycles across the range into an achievable level.

MBC is a crude leak bypassing the N75 to also lower its % duty cycle. Works also.

I've been wondering over this.

My mbc didn't cost more than £30. It's set up perfectly and the difference between it and something using duty cycle is that the mbc is so, so smooth. (The part throttle issue is very easy to live with on a dbw bt car - I hardly notice it now)

I'm asking myself if I should spend money on an ebc for the sake of it and sacrifice the smoothness.......

Done its job on the rollers thats for sure, onset of too much boost vs. rpm caused some issues, pulled it back and it made 10bhp on a second run in serious heat. (48° AIT before the car actually started rolling)

Hauls ass now. :D

Star wired it up, only 4 wires though, but setting up is easy, all you have to do is set the boost and adjust the wastegate duty cycle until the boost is bang on, as a guide mine was set to 1.4 BAR at 50% duty cycle - boost was bang on. The 3" inlet dropped the duty cycle quite a bit from the Forge TT inlet hose which is alot narrower - from 75% down to 50%, spooled up quicker too.

I am very cautious about touching the electronics of a car, so wiring for me is a no no (me and electrics really dont mix!)

going to purchase this bit of kit today, but just trying to find someone who would wire it all up........

anyone got any suggestions for who would do this around the south?

oil cooler now purchased and oil restrictor coming soon as well hopefully (thanks Rob :D )

now just the issue of the N75 valve

I think I will give Forge a ring and purchase the MBC for now

picking the car up tomorrow

How would you be sacrificing smoothness by fitting an EBC - mine's as smooth as a buttered baby's butt with no spiking at all and zero part-throttle issues - zero sacrifice.

Other thing I like about the Apexi is you can set lower boost in lower gears and at lower revs too. So to limit wheelspin you can set it to lower boost below certain rpms or lower boost in 1st and 2nd gear, then higher boost in higher gears! NO MBC can do that!

Cheers Rob, you and Phil have put my mind at rest.

The solenoids on the EBCs are evidently a lot better than the N75 at the job.

you see, each tuner I am phoning is giving me a different opinion (mostly saying no to the EBC), and so far, no one will take on the work to fit the EBC:blink::(

If its an apexi then i can see why they dont want to fit them, finding stuff like sensor triggers etc.. for stuff like gear judge is hard work, but for something like my EBC its just a live and an earth you need for the solenoid and for the unit. Simple.

Plus it has hi and low settings. ;)

Maybe better just have an MBC done for now then and worry about an EBC later, you may end up being perfectly happy with the MBC.

although speaking with one tuner (not P-Torque), they said removing the N75 is going to cause all sorts of issues, as its part of the standard management and will go into limp mode without it

but all it does it control the boost, and so a new manual controller would not cause limp mode surely, unless the boost limit is exceeded:confused::blink:

I've found the deviation from boost be it positive and negative to be pretty large, limp mode is only going to occur if the map is requesting pretty low figures, but thats not the case with you because you've said its requesting 1.5bar.
