Bluefin installed on my FR TDI !!!

Fitted the bluefin to my 07 FR TDI on Saturday.

What a difference, far smoother even at low speeds.

MPG has improved too, on a run I usually would do I normally average around the 50mpg mark, got 63mpg on the same journey last night

The guy in the EP3 Civic Type R wasnt impressed that he got owned by a TDI tho!

Seriously cant reccomend it enough. Ive done over 200 miles this weekend mixed driving but mostly ragging it and no DPF lights etc.

If you are considering getting one go for it, you wont be dissapointed.

I have also just purchased the Bluefin.

In the instructions did you use Method A or B ?

The bluefin is for the Leon 2.0TDI but doesn't say it is for a 170. the product code is BF06-VAG-T.

Which method do I need to use ??

50mpg I must drive with a lead right foot. The best average I have ever got was 47 and I was driving Miss Daisy. Bad hangover hardly hit the turbo.

You need to use Method A mate. If you have any issues just ring superchips top blokes

Not as yet mate but hopefully some time soon, I have had a standard run on same dyno so should hopefully not be any discrepancies in the results as I will be running on the same dyno.

Ill keep you posted. But the old ass dyno definately notices the improvement, you can feel yourself being pushed back into the seat more.

The ass dyno is a lot more accurate than the "pub talk" dyno ... Final guessed after tranmission loss figure from a dyno doesn`t tell you jack !! The only accurate measure is to get it on a bench ... How it drives is the important thing ...

Presume you got it RR before chipping it? Else how will you no what power you have gained?

Cool davey, how come you didn't go for the Chipped NI remap in the end? I got it done now 3k ago, £200 all in, never missed a beat or a dpf light. Goes like **** too, would be interesting to see what the two power figures of the cars are. Give us a shout if your for the RR!

Yeah I got it done standard, it wasnt as good as some, only made 185bhp and 276ft/lb of torque. Still above book though.

I went for Bluefin due to being able to remove it if I had to take the car in for a service or warranty work to try and not invalidate the warranty.

I know what you mean about the tyres lol. Aye when Im going to ECC for the new power run Ill give you a shout. It cost £50 for a run though

BTW you serious about the MPG figures? Are you driving down hill all day? lol. I get between 45-50 brisk/normal driving.

Yeah on a long run say limavady to belfast I can get 63mpg or there abouts now. This is based on 60 or 70mph and Cruise Control being used.

The key is to keep the engine RPM at 2000 rpm, this is the optimum on our cars for fuel efficiency (this means 60mph 5th Gear, 70mph 6th Gear).

Try it for yourself, put the car in 5th at 60mph (revs will show approx 2,000 RPM) and put on your instant fuel consumption setting on the trip co mputer.

Now set the Cruise Control. Note the figure you get and try the same thing now in 6th Gear still at 60mph (revs will be at 1700 RPM approx).

You will notice that the MPG is slightly lower in 6th at 60mph than in 5th at 60mph.

The reason I think for this is that the engine is slightly labouring at the lower RPMs from driving at 60mph in 6th gear.

I would agree with that totally, my commute to work is mainly 50mph limit with a small stretch (2 miles) of 70mph... If i do the 50mph in 5th and then do the 2 miles at 60mph in 6th i normally get 50+mpg... Of course i get cars passing me, but im on my way to work listening to pop master so im in no hurry at all.... On my way home i usually drive briskly and get low 40s mpg so it averages out about 44-45 which im more than happy with....

Well, I'm selling my type-r and part of me is thinking that I should sell the Leon too and buy something better... But will keep the Seat until the warantee has run out in a year of so at least so would £500 for that amount of time be worth it?!

Funny I always sit at 2000rpm, and dont always use 6th - dont like to have the engine labouring. On my commute to work I do 70 (2000rmp 6th) on a roads then 80 on the motorway dual.

I usually get 45-50mpg doing that, so maybe if I was doing 50-60mph all the way, and didnt do the odd banzai overtaking move id get more

As for cruise control, its the best thing since sliced bread, i use it as much as possible. Would probably say that 80%+ of the miles are done on my car without my foot on the accelerator

Will agree one thing though - the remap has defo improved mpg.

surely using cruise control is not the most fuel efficient way to drive, especially if you have gradients on your commute? Dont get me wrong its certainly easier and more convenient, but you tend to find that the car is on/off the throttle much more with cruise...

ps, why are we talking so much about MPG on a re-map thread? I definately fancy getting the Bluefin on my FR170 having read these thread

I would have thought that the cruise control is definitely the most fuel efficient way of driving. . . i know what you mean about it coming on and off the accelerator, but it's because it's only using it when it needs to, whereas if you're driving with your foot on the accelerator, you could be using much more fuel than necessary . . .

i'm no engineer though so . . .
