ECU Control Relay

Hi guys - first post, so be gentle with me!

I've read the threads regarding engine cutting out at traffic lights etc - I've cleaned the throttle body which seems to have done most of the job (and saved 50 quid from getting the garage to do it) - but it still plays hunt the idle speed; I want to change the ECU control relay but don't seem to have one with number 30 on it. Any idea which other one it could be?

Thanks

Jon

Hi again -

Right, I found the correct position for the relay on the relay panel (thanks to Karmacarzi for the link to www.vagcat.com) and it was empty! I've put in the new one though there is no apparent change - but I only did a couple of miles to test it.

Which gives me a couple of questions -

What exactly does this relay do i.e. why does my car run mostly OK without one?

Is this relay standard across the range or is mine some variant that doesn't use it? (It is standard petrol - Bosch multipoint ignition, engine code ALM)

Should I disconnect the battery to reset the ECU?

Thanks

Hi,
Did you manage to do it by disconnecting the battery? I am going to have to clean my Throttle Body too, from the sounds of things and I was wondering if you could tell me where I locate the relay you are referring to so that I can check for that too

Cheers
