hello guys. im good with installs etc but im not so great when it comes to chosing new stuff.

basically i have a 12 inch sub in a ported box at the moment. the box is a cubic foot that has got; two 1/2 cubit foot compartments, one ported, one sealed.

basically i dont like it, it hides too many frequencies of the music i listen to, its heavy, its just not nice!

so time has come to buy a new sub and box.
the music i listen to is quite ranged from drum and bass, dance music to heavy metal.

so basically im asking for help! what sub can i buy (does not have to come with amp but if it does then thats fine).

my price range is from nothing (the best price) to around 170 maybe 200 max price! would idealy like to spend around the 100 mark.

so what would be the best size of sub / box, what make etc.

i do use my boot so it would either have to be quite compact or easy to remove if its bigger. please help as my current sub is now peeing me off.

thansk very much

Adam

***Edit***
i forgot to mention, im not audio freak, i dont need the dogs goolies of subs and amps. i just need something that will sound good when the volume is low or when its cranked up a bit.

you're better off buying a sub and enclosure deal from halfords or somethin (or if you manage to find a very good 2nd-hand sub on ebay)

i think you don't understand the principles adam...you either get a sub for £100 which will only play at higher volumes and only play hard bass or you spend the extra buck and go for a more decent setup with a sub that will rumble at lower frequencies :headhurt:

haha, i thought about a decent 8" sub, its a bit more punchy for dance tunes, and being smaller its quicker so it seems to be able to keep up with quick beats

my mate thought that it my be worth trying a Behringer 12" loud speaker, these are used in concerts and they have a huge frequency range.

any thoughts on using a PA speaker as my sub ;)

by the way this is the one in question :) http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_12ba120a4_ersatzlautsprecher.htm

mate dont listen to some of the comments as above. 100 will get you alpine type R. Really good subs, good sound quality.

£100 can get you a "decent" sub as i said...all depends on how into your sound you are at the end of the day.

There are people out there who are more than happy with a sub that'll thump out at higher frequencies (i.e. House), others who prefer the rumbling at lower frequencies (i.e. RnB)

I'm running a JL 12W3v3 in a ported box which is being tweaked to play as low as it can (63Htz), currently playing at around 75Htz in custom box - all powered by Phoenix Gold Octane R8, 4 channel amp [B)]

Yeah so £100 sub will do it, but at the end of the day its the box in which its in which will mainly determine how it plays.

Im hopin you can make it to the meet in sidcup as it be interested in hearing your sub. Im running sealed at the moment but am considering porting it.

Got a mate to make my boxes for me aswell but my mate isnt hi tech like yours lol. He's a 17yr old bum but told me hed make me a box with his spare wood in his bedroom and it turned out pretty well. Needs painting or carpeting though.

One of the RE's is aestethically damaged. The dustcap fell off on one as the sub was going crazy with some bassy tune. Got another 5 weeks to wait before I can get a replacement dustcap. Still plays music fine though just doesnt look very good. :(
