Well my first coilpack has went tits up on the LCR, had 4 go in one month on the old Ibiza cupra so expected this lol

Its only done 35k miles so its went sooner than I thought. Do new coilpacks come with a mileage warranty???

I take it once one goes they all do very close after each other like the Ibiza

Just need to know if the coilpack for the AYP engine is the same as the BAM one in my LCR???

If not does anyone have a clue on the price for one???

They use to cost me £30 each for the ibiza so hoping there the same for the Leon.

Also a part number for the latest one would be handy if anyone has one.

Cheers

Original coilpacks are on a 5 year 60k warranty, although some good dealers will replace higher mileage ones.

Not sure if the new coilpacks have an extended warranty or just the normal 2 (?) year warranty

Very interesting that

I have only 35k miles on the clock and the cars an 04 plate so will the dealers replace the coilpacks free of charge???

They'll certainly replace the one that's gone (you may have to remind them of the 5yr warranty). If you're lucky they'll replace the others as well - it varies dealer to dealer.

The official line is that they'll only replace the failed coilpack, but a good dealer will realise that the others are likely to fail too and do the job lot for you

OK folks just been on to the local SEAT dealer and asked him about the warranty and he said there is not such thing as a warranty on coilpacks???

How do I find this out for certain???

Typical. My dealer said same initially but spoke to SEAT UK and then agreed with me. You could try SEAT UK's Freephone Customer Care Line 0500 222222 (8.00am - 6.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am - 1.00pm Saturdays) and get them to speak to dealer, try another dealer or if you're desperate they're only £30 and it only takes 10 mins to sort.

I can do better, my first coil pack went on 18k miles. Didn't know anything about the warranty so just bought a new one. Think it cost me about £50.

its a good idea to replace the spark plugs aswell because a plug starting to break down can cause the coil packs to fail

GSF car parts and the AA/RAC are £20 a coil i have been told before.

Is this for an original VAG part? It's just I had my first one go today. Completely shat my load as I'd done the dog bone bush yesterday and the vibration from the misfire almost felt like it was coming from below the car.

It didn't even occur to be that it could be the coil pack. I called the AA and who charged me £41 for the part. Thought it was a bit steep considering its £30 for the stealers.

Also is driving with the juddering bad for the car? I assume it is but is it ok to limp to say the closest safe place to stop or should it be stopped there and then? I was asked by the AA man to drive it off the slip road (on the motorway at the time) and meet him at the turn off as otherwise it would take him alot longer to get to me. I'm hoping that didn't do any extra damage??

The juddering in itself isn't a problem, but the unburnt fuel coming out of the engine can kill the CAT

So ideally not to drive it if it can be helped but driving it a short distance shouldn't cause any further damage?

Not sure tbh, but pattern parts are made to the same standards as genuine.

Where's the best place to get these as spares? I don't particularly want to get ripped off by the AA everything this happens. This was the first one so I don't mind paying the extra for the conveninace of having the part and fitted there and then.

If it was me, I wouldn't drive it at all - the last thing you want is to get the coilpack fixed and then be told that the CAT is shot

If you're still under the coilpack warranty, then the official dealer advise is that you get the car recovered to the dealer for repair, unless you live very close to them - at least that's what my father was advised when he had a coilpack failure by his local dealer
