Hi,

Just ordered the ScanGaugeII. £116 plus £6 for next day delivery. Seems pretty reasonable. Will let you know how it works when i fit it !!! - gotta get the breather pipe fixed first :( !

Cool. Ordered mine too little while ago off scangauge website. :)
Got the extra cable as well so i can permanently set it up in my car and use the other cable to use it in other cars as needed.

Sounds like a good idea. Thinking on, i should have ordered the extra cable, but having said that i don't think i'd be using it in another car really. Anyway i think it's only about £20 for the extra cable if i decide to in the future !

Sounds like a cracking little piece of kit !

"Foxy", when you say the trip computer isn't particularly accurate, in what way ? Is it far out (like quite a high % error ?). Is everything else pretty much accurate (speed etc) ?. Don't think i'd be using it for trip mileage anyway (as that is already on the dash display). Maybe i'll have it reading mpg / speed / boost / and something else when i find out exactly what it does !

regards,
Andy

Well just got the ScanGaugeII yesterday and seems a nice piece of kit !

Only one worrying thing, and i hope someone on here can help me. I input the data such as engine size: 1.8litres, tank size: 12 gallons etc.

On coming to work this morning i had rather a large difference in the readings from the inbuilt trip computer in the car and that on the ScanGauge.

e.g.
CAR READING SCANGAUGEII READING
Average speed: 33.0 mph 31 mph
Average mpg: 35.4 mpg 30.9 mpg !!
Live mpg readout: 93 mpg (coasting on flat road) 74.9 mpg !!

It seems a bit out and i'm not sure whether to believe the ScanGaugeII or my own trip computer in the car !! - i thought both the car's internal computer and the ScanGauge were getting their data from the same source (ie the ECU), so why should the readings be so different ?

Can anyone shed some light on this ?, i'm sure i'm doing it right. I input all the relevant data as per the instruction manual (tank size, engine size etc).

Also, just one more question. On the ScanGauge II it says "Cost per mile", but surely it needs to know the cost of petrol beforehand (eg 108.9p / litre). But i cannot find anywhere to enter this info, and the handbook doesn't seem to mention it either.

Just hoping someone with the ScanGauge II might be able to offer me help !!

Best Regards,
Andrew

Am looking into your issues as i am still waiiting on mine.

Maybe try settings the Scangauge to km/h and bring up the km/h reading on the climate control screen and see if they agree. Adjust the scangauge until they do.

Seems to be a lot in setting it up.

Where did you get gallons for the tank size? Note that american gallons which i suspect it uses is different to uk gallons. You can set it to litres apparently. They are the same

Cheers m8, the speedo is accurate. I know that because all analogue speedo's in cars seem to read 3 to 4 mph more than in real life (this is meant to be). The Scangauge reads EXACTLY the same speed as my sat nav, so in that respect it is accurate.

It's just the average speed readings, average mpg readings and live mpg reading seems to be out. The gallons are the uk gallons (says so in the book). So there's no alteration to US/UK gallons.

I have emailed ukobd about these issues and await their reply. I'll post it here once i get it!

As for the setup, it's really easy. You only have to enter tank size (12 gals for the leon), and engine size (1.8litres).

Andrew

Reading up on it it seems you need to do two or three full fill ups to get the MPG readings to be more accurate. You should give it some time.

Out of curiousity, did you get an average speed value from your sat nav on the same trip?
So you would have the ScanGauge, Car computer and Sat Nav information for the same trip and see how they agree

Hi,

Nope, didn't have a figure for av speed from the sat nav. But i'll have a go with that once i have a chance to have a couple of fill ups !.

Cannot really see how the tank being filled up a couple of times should effect the mpg or average speed readings because it is getting its data from the same place that the car's on-board trip computer is getting it from !

Andrew

Official response from UKOBD:

"Hi Andrew,

The ScanGauge ready data direct from the ECU and calculates from that
point, it is difficult to comment on the accuracy of your actual car.
The ScanGauge looks at the instant fuel consumption and distance
travelled to calculate average"

-------------------

However, this doesn't really explain why the ScanGauge differs from the readout in the car when they get the data from the same place !

Andrew

Hi,

Not sure where i'm gonna mount it yet!. Still haven't decided!. Have my Sat Nav where the ash tray was, so i cannot really put it there. Maybe on the top of the steering wheel casing ?

Any suggestions ?

Yeah, think i'll put it there. The on screen colours look excellent in the dark !!!! - nice piece of kit. I'm hoping the accuracy gets better once i have filled the tank up a few times.

If anyone wants the pdf instruction manual then pm me and i'll send it on. It's written reasonably straightforward. Those good chaps at UKOBD emailed me the manual!

Andy

Looks really cool, but pricey !. Think i'll stick with the ScanGauge II. Reasonably priced at around £120. Seems to do a good job. I've had mine now for 2 days and it's the bizz !.

Everything seems to be quite accurate, apart from mpg and distance/time to empty. But i haven't filled the tank up yet and accuracy seems to depend on this. So i'll not know if it's accurate in those departments for a few weeks yet.

But everything else seems to be accurate. Speed, trip, voltage, etc etc.

Incidentally, since it doesn't go into too much detail in the book, what exactly is "IGN" ? - it mentions it has something to do with octane of fuel. Also "MAP", "LOD (engine load), the manual only briefly skirts these.

Andy

I second that !!! - yeah the ScanGauge works on most cars including diesels, hybrids, petrol, LPG etc. They even reckon it will work on loads of other makers cars.

It is a COOOOL piece of kit !. Just stuck mine on the steering wheel body in front of the dials, it doesn't block any of the instruments and the double sided sticky/velcro pads you get with it seem to be VERY sticky !, you get 2 of these so you can easily swap it around to 2 locations in your car.

Still having an issue with accuracy with miles left to tank empty, but i'm hoping once i have filled the tank 2 or 3 times then the accuracy will knit in.

Everything else accuracy-wise seems fine. I like the way you can calibrate the speedo yourself if you want. I calibrate the ScanGauge with my SatNav and that way i know it is always accurate. Mind you, the default settings were spot on, so there wasn't any adjustment to make anyway.

Anyone want any info, just ask. I've been running it for a few days now and i'm quite happy with it.

Regards,
Andy
