Why not 1.4 turbos are a going to be a very compact unit meaning that they will be less expensive to produce in material costs. all this green eco world sortve stuff is driving small engines to be the future of the car.

Shame the ibiza wont get it. :(

We can dream tho!

Or just buy the audi.

I just had a horrible thought... what if the make a crossover instead of a proper hot hatch out of it? Oh dear...

EDIT: ok i read the article properly now instead of just getting over excited. Yeah it won't have it but how can the justify sticking it in a skoda if not seat?

The 1.4 twincharger is expensive to produce iirc and a 1.4 turbo with 180hp will have quite a bit of lag, and be sorta unrefined.

Plus next gen ibiza should have around 200hp.

The article about 4wd above is misleading. The only companies to use this platform with 4wd will be audi and VW.

Audi always do 4wd and VW will apply to their cross polo model. Seat and Skoda will not utilize 4WD, based on their current plans.

Two turbos should effectively destroy any noticeable lag otherwise there would be no point having two turbos.

A Turbo & a Super Charger, but there's only so far you can take things before... Either; reliability, cost effectiveness, driveability dictates otherwise! If you think about it the 1.4 16v currently being sold by VAG is an 85hp model so 170hp is doubling that!!!:-o

So the supercharger means it should be even less laggy than running 2 turbos even. But vag also used to sell a 100hp 1.4 16v. So double thats power and you will get 200hp. But then look at the 20v engine in the current cupra. That is tunable to over 500hp which is more than double the power it started with. So don't be to confident.

Yes yet it's one of the reasons it's not particularly "cost effective" to produce! Another is the composite they used for the block!!!

Yup quite familiar with this version. I have 92k+ on it right now... I believe emissions helped push this to an early retirement.:(

Tunable yes but with what compromises!!!
At what extravagant cost!?!:fool:
With what losses of everyday driveability!?!:drive1:
Oh & how long until your next rebuild, if there's even anything left to rebuild with that kind of juice!?!?!:drive2:

Well its a sign of the times really emissions pushes for ever smaller engines. Wer'e going to sadly see less and less monster engines fitted into everyday cars as time goes on.

Im not too happy about this bodykit. It has too many bocanegra styling cues in it and therefore I worry it will look too similair to the cupra.

[B)]Could see the Fabia Scout being offered with it as well...

the concept albeit having 4x4 stlying was only in fwd form.

Its either gonna have 1 turbo, or a supercharger and a turbo.

Audi use just 1 turbo on their 1.4 unit whilst vw utilise a supercharger and turbo. However a vw boss said that the 1.4 twincharger in 170hp form was costly and unreliable.

So I would rule out a twincharged engine for the cupra.

As for the audi version well a 1.4 turbo with 180hp would be alot to ask for and would have turbo lag.

Also SEAT will give the new cupra a power boost anyway. Were looking at around 200hp.

So, the easy solution, install the newer 1.8TSI, which in standard form pushes out 160bhp. Even standard, without a retune, that's gonna provide a lot of power for this new Ibiza.
