hi folks, i lowered my car a few weeks ago and noticed a creaking noise coming from the suspension when i turn the steering wheel when going slow, i think it must be the new springs turning on the suspension bases but i dont know how to stop the noise, i thought it would go away after it had bedded in but it still does it... any sugestions that may help are much appreciated..

the springs are H&R, i am very inpressed with the look and handling but just the small creaking noise is starting to annoy me now

cheers

work fine for me with FSD Konis. Are you sure thery're not upside down as they are progressive springs. Or maybe they are not correctly fixed in their mounting plates (not sure its the right term).

I have this exact same problem. Changed the H&R's last weekend and they're creaking when turning the steering wheel at slow speeds.
Did you have somekind of transparent tubes around the front springs upper and lower first 1,5 revs? I thought they should be removed, was i wrong??? Some of my friends thought that i have tighten the top strut nut too much and the axial bearing is making that noise. I tried to loosen the nut and tighten it a little less, but no change. If the bearing is already broken you can only fix it by changing them.

edit: i also wasn't 100% sure which way the springs should have been installed. I installed them with more coils at the top, and the text on the coil upside up.

interesting. Mine creaks at low speeds -15mph and I'm standard OEM springs. Wonder if this could be a possible issue???

Quote from H&R website:
"When the spring is fitted the stamp markings on spring should be readable, i.e. not upside down. "

Hi guys,

If it were me I would put some castrol red rubber grease in the top shocker cap and maybe a little on the bottom of the spring but when i say a little i mean a tiny bit.It use to cure this kind of problem years ago when i was in the trade.

hope this helps M

I have this issue too, only had it lowered for a couple of weeks on the H&Rs and it was done by JBS so i have no doubt that they've been installed correctly....

my standard set up also make this noise at low speed.
I intend to get this checked at next service.
Looking on here I saw a thread about steering rack problems that produces this noise at low speed. Apparently this was an issue with A3s and golfs that use the same rack, cant find the thread now so I cant say if this is a solved issue.

It didn't make any noise with the stock springs.
Note when fitting lower spring the person fitting the lowered springs should ALWAYS undo and re tighten the suspension bushes at the swivel arms [in the loaded position] - failure to do so may cause what you are hearing and also it will shag the rubber bonded bushes over time. .............................................

Had 25mil H&R lowering springs on my S3 now for 3 or 4 weeks , no issues with creaks or squeaks! i get a slight vibration at speed on bad tarmac , but i haven't yet had a 4 wheel alignment, it's time now as the springs have bed in well.

A lot of members on AS.net have used 25 mil H&R springs and spacers with no issues!

It took approx. 2 months & 4000 km's for the noise to disappear.
edit: ...maybe a bit less. Hard to tell exact, because one day I just realised it was gone.
