Folding wing mirrors

Hi - just joined forum today - hope someone can help me.
Someone smashed my RHS wing mirror forward beyond its normal range, from the folded postion.
I have (or rather did have ;)) the electric folding mirrors. Now neither
left or right mirrors move electrically. The RHS is also now a bit loose in its normal position for viewing (it wobbles when driving at speed in the wind). When the LHS mirror is moved by hand it locks at completely the wrong angle and is loose there - so now that one is completely useless! I have tested all of the fuses in the panel box on RHS of steering wheel - no blown ones. I have an Ibiza Sport 1.4 '05. I want to try to fix this myself rather than pay again at the garage (just paid for MOT and new tyres so skint :(). Cheers

Inside there is a white, circuit that all the wires connect into. This is where a fault could be cuased. IT also contains the motor for the window regulator, I know it contains the wiring for the folding mirrors I replaced mine for one without folding mirros and mine did not function.

So baisicly stip the plastic door card off check the connectors, a hard smash may have pulled the wiring out of the block or smashed it. Presuming you have broken something with the mirror as well so you may want to get that off. Just need to undo it from the bolt behind the tweter.

Right, I took the drivers door panel off and removed the mirror. I couldn't really see any damage though! None of the wires are pulled out.. a bit stumped... I might take off the LHS mirror at some point since that one is also not right - it doesn't move electrically. I wonder if when I tried to operate the electric folding with RHS mirror forced forward it moved the LHS too far and broke the motor or cable or something.....

Electric folding mirrors are really rare, as far as I've worked out, they were only fitted to cars with GK02 at the start of the reg. I used to own a GK02, and that had folding mirrors, all my other ones didn't :(

If you have folding mirrors, you can twist your mirror switch round 180 degrees. If you haven't, your switch won't move that far.

Tom, i'll try it tonight, but it's a new car so i doubt it! If i don't i wonder how hard i can turn it without it breaking ;)

Ah yes they chucked them into the convenience packs! They were only available 2005 onwards in MY06 cars, as my MY05 Ibiza (reg'd mid 04) got no options.

I 'm going to try an ECU reset this weekend (removing the battery for 30min). Can't think of anything else to try to fix this problem.

I've got them on my 57 Cupra TDI as part of an option pack I chose and the RHS one is playing up. Got it booked in next Tuesday for the dealer to look at.

Basically when I unfold them the drivers one gets to the point where it should stop, clicks a couple of times like its trying to go further and then it does....all the bloody way back lol

It either takes multiple attempts at opening/closing until it tops or i have to physically hold it still when it gets to where it should stop.

Nice when they work, annoying when they pack in.
