How Many Rattles

I picked my FR up yesterday and only managed a few miles to get it home.

It is a great car and the engine pulls really well what is annoying is the amount of rattles I am experiencing from inside the cabin. So far:

1) Above the stereo
2) Drivers Door/Seat area
3) Around the sunroof
4) Somewhere in the back

Is this usual and if so how did you go about fixing them? Are they any common rattles that you have all experienced.

One thing THAT grates me is rattles! [:@]

Above the stereo/middle vents seem to be a common problem with a known Seat fix.

I still have a rattle in each footwell after 3 attempts to fix.

One in the back could be the seat fastening (very common). Pull the seat fwd and stick insulating tape around the 'clip' that holds the seat in place. this will form a tight seal that will cure the problem.

Will do, remember this being the same on the MK1 as well.

Looks like a trip back to the stealers then :censored:

Good luck with the footwell rattles.

Must say after having my FR for a week and a half now I have no rattles, then again I have my stereo fairly loud so I probably wouldn't notice a subtle one.

I get one that appears to come from the bottom of the front passenger door. I only happens for about 5 mins every month though. Not worth investigating IMO. That would just be a recipe for more rattles.

Apart from that, mine is rattle free :)

...oh damn, that's jinxed it!

I get that passenger door one - I thought it was something to do with the speaker...asked dealer to look at when it went in for first service...Came back and no rattle. now it's appeared again :\

1) Above the stereo :

- probably front vents to windscreen (made from two different materials and each has different temperature expansion)
- or central vents ant its flaps
- or wires to radio or climatronic control module

2) Drivers Door/Seat area
- knocking door lock
- or something in doors
- or wrong fixed door cards
...

3) Around the sunroof
-wires to roof light panel may couse resonation during vibrations (low ref, loud music, etc.)
- roof cover and its mounting points

4) Somewhere in the back
-wires to rear roof light panel (same noise as front light roof panel)
-or knockning boot lock
-or boot cover
- roof cover and its mounting points
...

try to find and sort out ..... or volume up :))

I had 4 rattles on mine, now down to just the air vent one that the dealer claimed he couldn't find.

The CD holder was the first one.

Then the window regulators in both front doors needed adjusting for the other two. I'd worked out that if I put the windows down very slightly it cured the fault. Once I told the dealer this they knew what the problem was.

I have one at the back of my 1week and half old fr, booked it into the dealer then it dissapeared, so cancelled it.

Now its back but quieter. I have had my mate in the back listening for it, think it may be the seat like people have said or somwhere near the rear arch my mate recons. Bearing in mind we had the seat down when looking for the rattle.

Cheers

Nick

Found one of mine as reported on other thread  It was a panel on driver sider under dash through which the pedals come - it was knocking on the top of the foot rest. Thought it was air vent then headlight switch but got there in the end . I have another one too - can't track down, think the dreaded air vents but hope not and can solve myself. They really are bloody annoying though!!![:@]

If its any consolation Audi's rattle too. I've had an incurable on in the centre console since new, and a horrible dash vibration when I start the car which is intermittent and hasn't been cured to date. The windows also rattle in the frames, but dealers are looking at that this week :-(

I suppose there is so much wiring and crap behind the scenes in cars now you almost have to expect it even though it is as annoying as f"ck

Sorry to hear that on a quality product like the S3, should not happen for that money nor even on my FR which was substantially cheaper - never had any trouble with my Mk1 Leon Cupra. I will hunt it down oh yes!!!! Car will end up with pipe insulation over everything soon!!

I think I read in one of Bill Brockbank (Badger 5) posts recently that he got about 25kg of wiring loom out of a Mk3 Ibiza. Can you imagine how much there is in these new cars!?!?!? Happy sound-deadening mate - I always end up with new rattles if I take stuff apart trying to find it!
