Cupra Steering wheel audio controls

My 57 plate Cupra has the audio controls fitted and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if they have these and if so, does your's light up with the side lights on?

Mine's been in the garage the last week and is still in there having multiple issues resolved found when picking the car up 1st September but I'm sure when it was dark they never lit up as I seem to remember thinking to myself thats a little crap having to feel around for them while driving.

Yet the demo Leon FR i have at the moment does light up with the side lights on. Anyone clarify? If so it's another thing to complain about with this car which is really getting on my t!ts at the moment.

The demo FR with DSG is pretty cool though, it's also brand new so is being run in gently

Opps!! Found a post that says apparently Ibiza's don't light up but Leon's do?

WTF is that all about? Surely it's basically the same wheel? Anyone managed to get theirs lit up??

I dont even have audio controls on my cupra wheel let alone ones that light up so think yourself lucky!

You don't? Why not?? Is yours a slightly older model?

I'm sure mine has little differences inside of it than the one I looked at when ordering it. As it was so long ago I put it down to poor memory!

mines a 55 plate.. i thought only FR's had wheel controls, wouldnt mind them on my wheel! Well, as long as theres a way to get them to work with aftermarket head unit..

Definitely have them on mine. Steering wheel has 'Cupra' along the bottom as well, does yours? Don't remember it on the one I looked at.

They are great and easy to use but slightly annoying that they don't light up like on the Leon I'm currently driving.

i got a cupra flag on my wheel but not the whole word.. not that fussed to be honest, all i really want is a new gear knob lol

mine is about 1.5 months old now and has 'Cupra' across the base of the steering wheel and steering wheel controls and they don't light up. i have also changed my H/U and bought an adapter so that my steering wheel controls work with my H/U.

The steering wheel controls were not fitted to the Cupra until the last 'facelift' version, 06 onwards, and are much like the FR's. There were also a few styling differences, ie. the Cupra badges on the wheel, gear knob and seat motifs were added/changed. The s/w controls weren't even an option pre 06 so we have to make do with after market headunits and controls!

I've got a 56 plate Ibiza FR and I have the same issue as you. After reading this thread I've come to the conclusion that they shouldn't light up. Seems stupid when the Leon controls light up and the steering wheels looks identical!!

I have been told by seat in the past that the wheels however similar are different, something to do with the mount...

I've found an FR I want to buy as its a great price, but looking at the photo's it doesn't have a leather steering wheel, let alone the audio controls (which I'm not that fussed about anyway).

Does anyone know how easy and costly it would be to replace the steering wheel on an 06 reg FR with one of the leather ones?

it should be leather... all my ibiza's came with leather ones 1.4 se, 1.9Tdi sport.... 1.9Tdi fr my steering wheel controls dont light up either shame really wish they did! thanks for the link for the adapters thats one thing stoppin me puttin my Jl system in!

Hi Guys

I indeed enquired about this and found that seat said that this was not standard on the uk FR model, which is a right pain in the backside, as it would be very useful, if not for me my missus!

I am about to ask another related question about head units etc, but I would like to know if its not difficult to do, how does one do it?!!

Quite surprised they don't light up... IMO none of the Mk1 Leon's had steering wheel controls at all never mind ones that light up.

My Vauxhall had steering wheel controls... still found myself just using the controls on the radio though.

My current Ibiza doesen't have them but if I went for a newer Sport it would have had... not something I'd have used so I'm not fussed.
