FR + Koni FSD

Hi,

I've read a lot about how good Koni FSD dampers are and I'm thinking about buying a set for my FR TDI. I would like to use it with standard FR springs. I now that such change should improve ride and handling on poor surfaces but what about handling on smooth tarmac? Will my Leon stick to good roads like it does now with standard suspension? Will Koni dampers last as long as standard ones?

Haven't had first hand experience with Koni FSD's (but soon will!), but I expect the FSDs to be as good, if not better than standard.
Why do you want to keep the standard springs?

I've read that FSD works great with Eibach springs but I'm not sure if I want to lower my car. Most roads in Poland is very poor

I have Koni FSD's with Eibach's fitted to my TFSI Sport, which I think has the same suspension as the FR. The ride is a huge improvement over the standard shocks and springs: I can't comment on how much of that is down to the shocks, and how much is the springs; but I think you will definately get an improvement in ride quality replacing your shocks with FSD's.

As to the build quality of Koni's, I believe thay are fitted as standard to Lamborghini's and other prestige cars.

How much car goes down? FR is already lowered so it shouldn't be much.

I had FSD's fitted to my standard springs(didn't want the car lowered any). You will notice the difference in ride, it seems to soak up some of the bigger bumps rather than crashing through them. I have had them on for four months now and am very happy with their performance and I'm sure they will last as long if not longer than the standard Sachs dampers. I say they are a bit softer than the originals but they still provide the car with immense amounts of grip when your driving style gets a bit more spirited.

Thanks for answers. I think that I will go for FSD only first and if I'm not satisfied with raid/handling/looks of may car I'll buy Eibach Pro springs later. Does changing dampers affects warranty?

The FSD's sound like the perfect compromise at a reasonable price.
My worry now is that fitting them may affect the warranty as confirmed by JohnTDI, but my question is to what extent do you think it would affect warranty claims?
I can understand replacement of upgraded dampers being excluded under warranty, as they are not stock parts, but how far do you reckon it would affect other components, or influence a dealers opinion of warranty repairs on other items?
Has anybody had any issues with warranty repairs having upgraded their suspension setup?

Depends on how helpful your dealer is.
From my experience with other cars & other dealers, if you change a component to anything other than OEM it will invalid the warranty on that particular component. Other components will not be affected.

But it all depends on the dealer.
