Found out I have a washer fluid leak

Doesn't appear to be any posts about this on the mk2 forums but i did find out some possible causes in the ibiza sections so thought i would post the links to those topics in here for anyone searching in the MK2 section.

Seems to be a leak somewhere in the rear footwell possibly, but i will take pictures once I figure out what I am repairing.

Ibiza Topic.. http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=150873

I wonder if the cold has split a pipe open Graeme? Have you not been putting screenwash in the tank? If it's collecting in the footwell, it's either running in down the B pillar or the pipe for it runs inside the channel under the kick plates - dealer warranty thing or are you going to remove some trim and have a look for yourself?

Guilty, it was running on only water. I'm going to have a look myself before getting it to the garage, but the kickplates are really difficult to take apart to get access under the carpet. Thankfully I already had the boot trim off and have been too lazy to put it back on so i could check the hose unions in minutes. Need to check what my warranty mileage is.. iv been meaning to get my tyre pressure sensor fixed but not been too fussed because im within warranty but i've done over 30k so maybe that's game over for the warranty.

Running on water is probably fine down here in the carribean but up there in Iceland that's asking for trouble :) TBH i don't know the cable routing of the new Leon at all, however there's only limited places it can be however as you correctly state, access is also very limited. If you can find the pump and outputs, can you not disconnect the rear screen pipe until you locate the leak?

I will be looking at it later on tonight.. first I'll have a nosey where the water is leaking see if there's anything obvious from there.. then i'll look at getting under the carpets. One thing I'm slowly learning is not to assume anything.. and at the moment i am assuming the damp foot well is related, but perhaps it's not (I do have less wheel cleaner than i though i did) ;)

I'll just try not to us the washer, it's hardly worth using anyway as the water only makes it halfway up the glass. I should have looked at this sooner it's been like this for a while now. I just thought if I "willed" the water higher it might work. Or if i pushed the stalk in a more manly manner that would do it!

I will take plenty pics though and hopefully figure out where the pipes come and go from. And also hope i dont find a rusty footwell.

The rear washer pipe on my wifes Beeza split in the cold weather, it was repaired under warranty. However we did notice the next time we went in to the $tealers that there was a sign up saying that unless the correct amount of (SEAT) screen wash was added and that the solutions freezing point was below -12 (or -15 for 'fan type' washers) that the repairs would no longer be carried out under warranty.

I would guess that you've had the leak / split for a while and that's the reason for the poor water jet - mine was always lacklustre at best .... and yes, my rear wash wipe pipe was split at the join - damp boot carpet etc.

However if the water is in the footwell, it's either a split in the hose along the car or maybe the Mk2 Leon suffers from leaky door seals too?

Best of luck- make sure you've a good supply of tea and biccies :)

Any news on this? my rear washer is not working after the cold spell and it seems to have soaked the rear foot well and front carpet.I've had no problems with leaks until the cold in January 2010.

I just noticed earlier today that the sound deadening under the bonnet was wet. I am wondering if the front washers have suffered from the cold spell. I usually keep a fairly strong solution in the reservoir but as it's been lower than -15 here it may not have been enough. As for the rear washer I had a problem with both previous Golf's and and A3 where in cold weather the pipe to the rear wash used to pull loose where it fitted to the motor. It used to fill the wheel well with fluid. As its as VAG car I would check this connection.

Cheers

Did anyone ever find the solution to this leak? I've just found my rear foot well is wet from the wiper and don't know where to start looking.

Thanks

Apparently bonnet sound deadning is always wet. Wrong design of clips and middle clip quite often pops put in mine. Winter and cold doesnt help but its not main reason for the problem.

I have just had new sound deadening and uprated clips fitted under warranty, Seat UK have it as a fault but my Dealer was not aware until I told them

Read this helpful thread http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=246307

Uprated Clip Part No. is shown there

rear washer

update

Took my car to local dealer (not) Seat Specialist - leak spread from rear footwell under front seat. The joint that popped is behind the driver's side parcel shelf support - the joint is towards the seat belt linkage area - pipe attached to the wiring loom! Fix is to push the pipe back into the joint.

Vaxxxed the carpets front and back to dry out the underfelt - all sorted now and happy with the car again.

Just switched to Falken tyres from Eagle F1's.:D

Thanks, Mike. I found the guilty joint. Not easy to get to but easy to fix. It must have been off for a while but had stayed lined up as I don't remember my rear washer reaching that far up the windscreen!

I cut into a washer pipe in the engine bay by accident one time
The joint piece i had blew off over winter when it had probably frozen down the end of the line, and the pressure blew it off.

I advise pasting on some plumbers, solvent weld glue. Stayed tight, no problems now!

Cant believe even the MK2 Leons have leaky washer pipes.
The MK1's were well known for it.

Seat obviously couldnt be bothered to address it 2nd time round.

My rear wash has stopped working, so after looking at the thread NC posted (very good too) I decided to take a looksie. Imagine my surprise when it was still connected solidly.

So guy's my next question is where else could it have popped?

Gonna look under the bonnet tomorrow to see if it's come off there. Nozzle is clear too.

Where ever the wife tells me
There's another connector near the washer bottle that comes apart. Park on a dry spot fill the bottle then keep the rear wash operated for 15-20 seconds, then look underneath the washer bottle to see if there is any water pouring on the ground
