Vr6 2.8 Conversion!!??

I have been offered a 2.8 golf mark111
and i was thinking of putting it into my 2000 ibiza 1.4s

is this hard??

anyone done it before know any extras i will need??

chassis is the same....

if you have a complete donor car, it'll be a walk in the park (with oil)

remove engine/box from ibiza & replace with that from the golf. you may as well fit the wider front wishbones & hubs to get the bigger brakes too.

take the wiring loom from the golf & fit it to the Ibiza (engine side only)

i think that is very needed. 1.4 brakes are cack and wont stop the car. also you will need to upgrade your current suspension as a 2.8 engine is a darn sight heavier than the 1.4!

they're not a whole lot better as 288mm brakes really... but better than 239's!

Willl you be able to use the stock exhaust manifold/downpipe - or will it hit anything?

You may want to think about suspension too as this engine will weigh loads more than the 1.4 - and a lot more than the 1.8t too i expect.

Sounds like an interesting conversion, i turbocharged VR in a cupra car would be lovely, im not sure what it would do to the handling though as it is a big old steel lump.

Good luck with it if you go ahead, it would make for an awesome sleeper for sure!

20kgs isnt a great deal if that is correct, move the battery to the boot and reduce the washer bottle size and it wouldnt be that noticable i wouldnt think.

Baisically the same conversion. You will need to upgrade fuel pump and cut the chasis leg to physically get the engine in, but everything else will be a 'rob off a mk3 golf' job.

Vr is 45kg heavier btw.
