While booting my newly IHI'd cupra i noticed a drop in boost to almost sod all and i saw my water temp was at 120!!!!!! after slowing down it took 5 mins to get back to 90. I have a forge fmic and checked all the hoses so called jbs who said it may be the water pump and all in with the timing belt changed it will cost 320 quid! Is this a common fault and is there an uprated option??

if its never had belt changed it will still have plastic impellared water pump
a common fail item

you need a metal impellar'd pump, and whilst your doing that you should change all belts and ancilliaries. circa 200quid for parts

surely if the water pump had gone it wouldnt have cooled down when you slowed down and took it easy ?

Mine didnt start cooling till i was on the hard shoulder of the m4 lol.. Then again my (plastic) water pump impellor had shattered!!

When mine went water temperatures would stay at 90 if I kept the revs under 3k. I think mine had split and was spinning on the shaft.

Good news guys !! i is back on boost as jbs sorted my water pump out on monday morning , the old plastic one was cracked and just spinning on the shaft so temps were just silly high the drive to chesterfield was not much fun and very slow but 320 quid , a new metel pump and a cam belt change later the fun is back:D
