Does anyone know if there is an anti lag system available for the 1.8t?

I read on Hooch's thread that the turbo that he has has the option of this but then hes also speaking about running a standalone ECU so probably linked with this. don't think the standard ECU would support it

some are quite crude but the short story is it keeps the turbo spinning while off the gas. Some just cut the spark plugs out so your gas/air mixture keeps the turbo going and when you put the foot back down it turns the plugs on again and the turbo is at full spool and an added bounus the gas/air mix egnites and you get a flick off flame through the zorst but its def not mpg friendly but most are switchable

can you afford a new turbo every 1000miles or so?

it's illegal because it'll likely flame out the back (in a bad way). turbo life is hugely shortened - which is fine for stage rallies (since they only run Antilag when actually running, not the bits between)

Not sure the ECU support its

All in all, whats the point?

you would need a stand alone ecu, then you would need a stack dash, then the whole car needs re wiring, lots of ££££, the standard ecu wont support it i wouldnt of thought, bill is having it done to his ibiza, i think i am going to have it done to my s3 when the new turbo and engine are built up

My mate has a Escort Cosworth fitted with an anti-lag system. The system on it keeps the engine revving at around 1.5-2k when idleing but the pipework under the hood bypasses the inlet of the engine from after the turbo, essentially dumping the boost through the exhaust. There is still a noticable lag on the system, not majorly but if running a smaller turbo (250-300bhp) the results would be better, his is rated for over 400bhp. It does a good job but side effects include a super hot engine/turbo/downpipe/exhaust. The CAT which was initially on the car was burnt out within a couple hundred miles. And the heat generated has made the paint crack on the bonnet near the twin vents and over the turbo. The system is switchable, otherwise the cost to run it would be immense.

Nos sounds a bit simpler
How long do you have to wait for these BIG turbo conversions to kick in.

it'll be spooling up about 1250rpm later than the k03s.

best bet is just to adapt your driving to the new turbo.. I'm sure if someone developed a lag free 600bhp turbo you'd know about it.... but you can't have your cake & eat it

the ko3s is very nippy... i sensed a big difference with ihi ... almost made the car feel heavier at lower revs. and mines quite small bt so its not a lag monster.

but within a month bet you dont notice it. its a completely different animal now, youll adjust to it.

the car is a monster over 3000 rpm but you have to keep the revs there , itll just take a bit of adapting. yes the car doesnt feel as "nippy" round town but when you open her up WOW! theres this wall of power right up till 7000 rpm and the noise is so raw/meaty makes me smile ALOT.
