One thing though, all this MPG calcs, are you suing the cars computer or Fill up maths. May be best to ignore the computer for one tank and see the true MPG, it may be better than you previously thought.

I calculate mine manually filling it every time. One thing I have noticed is the trip computer is miles more accurate (within 1mpg), probably as I can't vent this tank.

I'm so glad someone has started this thread, i am totally bored of my FR TDi, just can't get on with it anymore, I am very tempted to get back into a MK1. I'd love another car to jump out at me at the minute but I just can't see anything, not many other cars have bluetooth which is brilliant in the LEON. I estimte my LEON is worth around £12500, what else can I get?

I just don't want to create another MPG thread when there is an existing one with plenty of figures.

I guess I do miss the economy but also the grunt. Just a shock to what mine was like before. Can't believe they can be so different. I did have a 225 TT in between though so MPG has improved.

My bro has a mint 53 plate Mk4 Flog PD150 and I'd consider that over mine... he likes mine too.

By grunt you mean the low end torque?? I diddnt think they were too much different - the PD130 had a little more...

Still prefer the Leon by a long-shot, mainly down to the handling - and Mk4 Golfs and Mk1 Leons just seem dated now.. (Except maybe the VR6 and Cupra R's!)

I too miss my Cupra TDi150.. ♫"wonder what, she's doing now....."♫ Can't believe this TDi 140 Stylance i've got is 5mpg down on the Cupra with similar driving... And boy is it noisy in sixth!

Your comparing a revo'd old FR against a standard new FR...

190Bhp/290lb ft 'v' 170Bhp/258lb ft + a much smoother power delivery curve, its likely to feel slower and probably is.

I can't believe they are that bad. I ordered my MK1 FR TDI for March 2005, as I was informed that the new shape would be out soon after, which I didn't like.

Think I'll keep hold of it for a while longer then.......

Not denying my mk1 was quicker, just gutting the MPG is so much lower on a lesser powered car.

They arn't...

I chose the PD150 Golf over the Leon Mk1 - and prefer the Mk2 Leon over either...

Cant deny it needs a remap though!

don't you think though, Haddock, that the Mk2 Leon feels cheap compared to the Mk1 let alone the last generation Golf?

Are there any genuine reasons for the poorer MPG on the 170? There doesnt seem to be much in it weight wise, could it be cause of different fuel injections? I could be way off here but are the new TDI no longer PD's? The CO2 emissions are much higher too. Now take a look at the new BMW 123d. 207hp and 50MPG and low CO2.

I have to say that reading all of this reinforces my decision to stick with the Cupra Tdi - i've yet to see anything that i'd replace it with that ticks so many boxes and as for looks, the Mk1 just looks far better than the Mk2.
