I had this problem too, the problem is mate the old speakers aint round, i eventualy used the adapters that came with my JBL's and drilled some more holes! sounds sweet now though :funk: but it was a much bigger job than i thought!

I thought tweeters where supposed to be roughly inline with your ears. These would be good if you where a cricket :funk:

They should be not more than 15cm's away from the speaker for good SQ. Ideally the door should have a pod facing upwards towards the driver as below(this is a footwell pod). Applys to door pods too though.

My components say place tweeter high in door or even in the dash if possible.

Problem with that is that the sound from the tweeter hits your ear before the sound of the speaker with carries the Mid and Bass which is obviously further down at the door, so your catching delayed sounds from the latter. Ideally the sound should be coming at the same time into your ears hence placing the tweeter near the speaker. ;)

Placing the tweeter in the dash provides a soundstage as it reflects off the windscreen opening up the highs of the tweeter problem with that is you'd have to remount the speaker higher up the door. ;)

Take a look at some professional installs at SQ competitions. Never mind the 23 speakers in one car with 18 subs Max Power stuff thats all for show! :D
