Paint colour difference

Ive had my Ibiza fr for about 4 months now and its on a 04 plate but it wasnt until my m8 said has it been pranged before i was like why he pointed out the back of the car well the back bumper well everywhere below the back lights is a slightly different shade of silver darker than the rest of the car. as you can imagine i was fuming that i never spotted this when i looked at it first time so ive done a little bit of investergating at my local seat dealer looking at other silver ibiza's and ive noticed anther like it so that got me thinking either this is common thing or this garage has had alot of back ended cars and done them up and got a crap sprayer to paint them it doesnt have any obvious signs of work being done in the boot or under the car all the seems look pretty much factory standard.

So has anybody else with a silver ibiza noticed a darker shade of silver on there back bumper does anybody know if this will be covered on my warrenty to have it resprayed (i know dealers can be dodgy on paintwork) how the hell do you think i should aproach this issue its realy downing me now cos now its been pointed out to me everytime i look at it it sticks out like a soar thumb.

I used to have a red 1.2 and the rear bumper was a slightly darker shade of red compared with the body although i know it had never been hit and re-sprayed so i guess it could have been down to the bumper being plastic. Is the front bumper slightly darker too?

I think most bodyshops will hit you with the fact that paint shades vary between the surfaces they are sprayed onto, for example Metal/Plastic.

My rear bumper is a slightly different colour but that HAS been resprayed and it could be down to that - I know my cars shades are slightly off a little bit due to some respray work that has been done.

Some photos have been posted on here before of brand new cars and the bumpers look a lot darker than the bodywork, along with the fuel filler cap mainly because the surface.

Our Ibiza is ever so slightly different on the bumper compared to the body. Our Fiesta similarly so.

My bumpers looks a slightly different colour to the metalwork, particularly noticeable in photographs.
Seat might have details of any work on your car if you call them up. If it was crash-repaired at a Seat dealer then it will have been recoreded against your car. Obviously if it was done at a back-street repairer, then it won't.

It could just be that the car was involved in a bump and was repaired. Does it really matter?
I bought my car and it was only on a very sunny day a few months later I noticed one of the wings had been resprayed. It's my fault I didn't notice it when I bought it, and the repair looks good, so I'm not too bothered.

Thanks for clearing that one up for me guys i did think about the plastic bumper making the difference and i think you guys have cleared my mind that i have'nt been mugged buying this car.

As for does it matter well hmmm in most peoples minds no but im a bit of a perfectionist and hate even the slightest bit of imperfection im always getting ear ache from my boss for scrapping perfectly good steel lol just for drilling and tapping a hole a few mil off center lmao geuss thats just me.

My bumper looked different before I changed it - but then saying that it's probably been painted cos the whole bloomin car seems to have ben at some point!

You do get different colours due to static in metal/plastic. But there are SO many shades of colour. Like mine is Black Magic. But you can get Black Magic Pearl, Black Magic metallic, black magic light shade, black magic dark shade......and obviously IF the car has been involved in an accident (say two years after it was new) the paint will have faded a bit and when the new paint is applied - it will stand out.

I had the whole of my offside resprayed because of a paint defect on the drivers door.
Despite the fact that whole side was done at the same time there is a slight difference between the body (metal) panels and the bumper (plastic) sections.
Even the lock barrel surround on the door is a little bit different as it's plastic.

Apparently yellow and silver are the two hardest colours to match.

My yellow Ibiza is different shades. My brother asked a dealer about his Leon Cupra and they said that they would be more suspicious if the car WAS the same colour all over!

some colours can be a pain to match. Had a yellow MX5 once and it was a nightmare to match. ended up with a total respray by the paint company that Mazda used (at their expense)
