Check your paintwork!

Just washed the new Altea for the first time today during one of the rare sunny moments and spotted a bare patch of paint at the bottom of the nearside rear passenger door just above the sill towards the rear wheel arch.

The primer can be seen clearly through the colour coat, and it must have missed out on a pass of the spray gun, either human or robotic, will have to take it into a Dealer to have it checked out and corrected.

Not impressed with Seat's QA, together with the inconvenience of having to put it in for a couple of days to be repaired.

It makes me wonder how thick the paint is elswhere on the car, and what problems lie ahead, pity since it drives so well and in all other respects is a very good car.

Anyone else had a similar experience?

Marty

Ive found a lump of dirt on my roof. Its original paint, (I know this because Im a painter) but I wouldnt get away with it in work.

I hate the look of the golf, which they share much with, but you can be damn sure VW would do a better job of quality control

Didn't one go over it with a fine tooth comb before one bought it or is it a company car ?.

Tell,

It's been dark here in Scotland whenever I've had a free moment, it looked fine under the fooodlights when I picked it up from the Dealers just before Crimbo, but even if it had been in the daylight I doubt I would have spotted it being so low on the car.;)

martycupratdi, if its really difficult to see the imperfection i'd be tempted to leave it well alone, my experience of a paintwork problem correction has not been a happy one, i'd seriously think twice about giving your car a respray of any sort, seek compo and just enjoy your car.

Did you purchase it brand new ?, not 100% clear in your initial post.

Hi Phil,

It's quite obvious when you spot it, it's just been missed off with a final pass of the spray gun, a quick dust over will sort it.
The car is an ex demonstrator purchased with 5000 miles on the clock.

I'm not expecting any hassle with Seat owning up and putting it right, it's clearly a production problem.

Cheers,

Marty

We had some grit under the paint on the lower lip of the tailgate hardly noticeable but as it was a new car wanted it put right which the dealers did and a perfect job... it was a bit trivial.. I washed and waxed the car today in sunlight the car is a year old and I must say the paintwork is still excellent and has a great finish and seems to be tough with only 2 small paint chips after 10k miles. The whole car does have a VW quality about it and very pleased with our purchase.

My blue stylance had two tiny (the size of a fine pen nib) lumps underneath the paintwork on the boot, which were white. Noticed them whilst washing the car. It wasn't long before a service, so mentioned it to the service guys then.

They got back to me, and asked that I take it back to them at a later date, as they decided a specialist needed to examine it.

The specialist came and said it needed sorting (under the warranty). Took 2-3 days to get sorted, and now its spot on. The staff who I spoke to were absolutely fine as well.

Like a previous post said, it was a bit trivial, I know, but I just asked and they said it was worth a claim. To be honest I thought it wouldnt get as far as a respray without kicking off, but I didn't need to.

well if its a new car it should be as near perfect as a new mass produced car can be.. its a big purchase and I like things right from the start

Yeah man, totally understand that...the guys at the garage said exactly the same thing as you just have!

Too much money to be spent on something thats not right.

Nice one! I need something next time thats gonna get me from a to b a little bit easier. The 1.6 engine does have to be worked on a journey in my opinion!

Thats why we went for the diesel ...even though its not a powerful car it has a fair bit of torque and makes acceleration fairly effortless and cruising relaxed ...lower revving and good economy ...I think we'll always go for diesels for the family car in future... we had a Zafira 1.8 petrol before and wasn't so keen on the way it drove
