Having had some serious annoying news about a now retracted job offer, I popped out of the office at lunchtime for a drive. Haven't done that in months. Took my boss with me who is a huge car fanatic (we like 700 others are being made redundant in the coming months) as he hasn't been out in it yet.

Basically floored it around my favourite twisties, running it to the red line and she sounds throaty as hell at the top end of the revs (for a diesel). 20 great minutes of really fun driving. I am sure my DPF burned off any soot left ;)

I completely forgot how much fun this car can be on the right stretch of road. It's a hard country road and I have changed my mind on the ride. It's set up perfectly. Considering how bad the surface is, the car didn't shake, twitch or put a 18 inch foot out at any point. It felt positively alive and felt like I was test driving it again :D

My boss loves it. He was surprised by the power delivery, he thinks the ride really plants the car and said it was really composed. He was very impressed.

I have just fallen in love with my car again and refound all the reasons why I bought it in the first place. I recommend it to anyone who is starting to fall out with theirs. Give her the beans, she will love you for it [B)]

Mytravel ?
Nope. Totally different industry. I'd rather not say because public forums are never the best place to make any comments towards who you are still employed by (even if it's for only a little longer).

On a side note, got my Seat Sport Gearknob and Cupra Black grille being fitted tomorrow too.. excellent :D

I feel the love....well you know what i mean.

After being the owner of many Saab / Audi / BMW cars not one feels as special as the FR when flooring it round the twistys. Its superb. I also think its where the seats come into their own. No body movement no matter how fast you corner. I did like the 140 sport i tried before the FR but that extra 30 bhp does mean alot when it comes to pulling through the gears. FR 170 rules!!!!!!!!

I work nights and have an 8 mile drive home on a/b roads at 6am every morning!!!!! I normally floor it and smile all the way home, but two nights ago i was reading the thread about the TFSI fuel economy and slating us 'tractor' owners so i floored it even more on the way home and did 36mpg..... then this morning i drove home very very very carefully... and got 50.2mpg.... so we really do have the best of both worlds huh

Sounds great about the drive! Sorry to hear about your job though.
I forgot how good mines was too until I went out on a short run on Sunday to show how good the 2.0 TDI was to a friend of mines. Great fun and still loving the torque.

I hear ya...I was on my way back home last night late in the evening, I got to my close but just couldn't stop and just kept on driving. Ended up going for a proper burn on local a/b roads. Just fantastic, the level of grip and power still amazes me.

Did that last year when I first got her but haven't in ages. I think I may do that more often. I got the MPG down to 30 on my 20 minute run. Petrol drivers... suck it up :funk:

I'm having my FR RR next month and i will say now there must be more than 168 bhp under the hood. 0-60 in 8.2 sec!!! Yeah, whatever:confused::confused: Towing a caravan flow of bricks would my FR would still do it faster than 8.2 secs

Sorry to hear about your job.
Was it RSA?
I've just found something about it on Yahoo, I hope not as my g/f has just started working there!

EDIT: Although you said you went out for 20 minutes, I don't think there are any country roads within 20 minutes of the city centre! So it's probably not RSA.

Well, how's this for irony?!!

Just been told today that one of two people will be made redundant in my department.........................and I am one of those two people!!! :(

You are joking mate :( Sorry to hear that news fella. There seems to be a spate of companies laying people off at the moment. The murderous US economy isn't going to help us either now.

Redundancies have been happening here for a couple of years.
Haven't been making a profit for a while so head count came under scrutiny.
It's lean at the moment but they cutting it right down to bone now.
A lot of people are doing 2 or 3 peoples jobs, including me.
