My girlfriend has just bought me a set to go on my sport that I get on saturday :D

Has anyone got a set that they use on the road? If so any run-ins with the police? I've read up on the German and Spanish plates with different fonts and spacings and how people get pulled but not often. I'm thinking that with distinctive black and whites I'm gonna attract ALOT of attention?

Hope this isn't the case!!

:D

Any reason for them to pull you that involves little paperwork = they will pull you.

Especially since your young.

...Vehicles constructed before 1.1.73 may display traditional style "black and white" plates ...

Unless you live on the Ise of Man... then it's 1.2.1990

Otherwise not legal.

The general rules are:

The law states that,

You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).
Offences may result in any or all of the following:

A fine of up to £1,000
The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN
The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test

One excuse is to say your just back from a show and carry the original plates in the boot - ''I forgot to change them, but I can assure you it wont happen again officer, sorry.."

A friend of mine has an FTO and tried that. Unluckily for him... he got pulled a second time and said the same thing and as luck would have it, it was the same Police Officer! Was warned, a third strike and he could loose it (and it was a pretty expensive private plate).

Though I suppose you pays your money and takes your chance (as they say).

haha some of the stories on here are unreal. It sounds as though the police have nothing better to do.. I know that they can't be out solving crime all of the time but still surely racking up £30 fines here and there isn't giving them "job satisfaction" if there is such a thing!

i read somewhere that black and grey plates will pass an mot. cant remember where i saw it but i dont think you'll get pulled much also a car round here ran them all the time and never got pulled. i had no numberplate on the front of my mk2 golf gti, neither any bumpers and i never got done. i know being bumperless is legal but no plates nor front indicators is pushing it lol. as i say i was fine :)

StuPDi: I'm sure you are allowed to have a logo in the space along with the Euro symbol. Probably more likely did you for the font?
