Need some help with my key fob

As the title suggests I am having a bit of difficulty with my keyfob, I've done the search and I have done what other people have tried and still I have problems.

The remote just does not work, I can still unlock and lock the car by putting the key in the door. So far I have checked all the fuses mainly fuse 14 which is fine.

I have also tried resyncing the key with the spare key with instuctions from the owners manual which does not seem to work at all :(

Now embarrassingly this accured after I stalled the car doh :headhurt: but lets forget that hehe. The little led that flashes on the key still flashes so I dont think that the battery in it has gone flat either but I could be wrong.

Can anyone suggest anything I could try to fix the keyfob? e.g. disconnecting the car battery for a little while to reset everything? Or maybe its a visit to the dealer?

Any advice would be great :)

Thanks in advance.

the guide in the manual worked for mine mate, u can reset ur keyfob by removing the battey inside for an hour or so, i purchased new batterys from tesco, take note of how u removed the batteries, and then follow the guide in the manual used the spare standard key.

Yeh I have tried that, resyncing the keys. It does not seem to work remotely after doing that.

I will try disconnecting to car battery on my next day off which is sunday :( of that does not work I will try replacing the battery in the keyfob.

Cheers for the help :)

This way?

This is how i did mine, similar to your step 2, but mildly different.

Use original key to turn ignition on (i was replacing a broken remote so used the original flip portion for this)

Using a second key, lock the door

HOLD DOWN lock button on new remote until horn sounds

Wait 6 seconds, then press again. My alarm went off at this point.

Open door (might have to use the second key, rather than remote)

Turn of ignition, close door and try new remote. Should work fine, mine did.

Might be best to do it with your window open too, cos i found that the remote didn't work until i'd removed the key from the ignition.

If this doesn't work, try replacing the lock button presse with unlock, i can't remember which one i had to press now!

Just back to the resyncing, i think im might be doing it wrong. Do i have to shut the door while im doing the resyncing? I left the door open and did it because I did not want to be locked out of my car with a key in the ignition lol.

Thanks again.

Yes the door has to be closed. The key will still open the door anyway as it only syncs the fob remote.

The keys also stop working because the thin section between the two buttons jams them. Dealer will diagnose replacement key. You can however often rectify the problem by rubbing the section between the buttons with your thumbnail for a while. It's been a permanent solution for me...

The little flashing led on the fob flashes when i press a button so I think I can rules any damage to the buttons out, I will try the resyncing again with the door shut but will probably leave the windows open just incase :)

Cheers again

Even if the light is still working it can still be that the battery has insufficent juice left to operate remotely. I recently replaced the battery on my original non-flip key from a 54 plate Leon. No need to re-synch, just a bit of effort to pull the key section away from top of fob then get the fob part open with a small screwdriver to assist and gently replace battery without snapping the metal contact. Battery was about £3.30 from Halfrauds ( Panasonic ). ;)

Usual operation restored.

You don't have to change it that fast. Just have new battery ready then pull apart the key take old battery out and put new one in. Although you have flip key and that it probably easier said than done!

If you are worried about shutting your door then wind the window down.

I have VAG-COM but I'm a bit far away really.

Stick a post in the VAG-COM section for some help. Worth a try before you spend money on a new fob.

I know you have probably looked already but there are 2 big threads on the Ibiza section about key fobs, 1 in the mk3 and the other in the mk4.

Picked up a new remote from VW resynced same way as the manual, car churped and then the remote worked :)
Cost me £44 new, did not want the hassle of getting one via ebay then finding out it may be broken lol.
