Yup, the second pic definately looks like the EGR (Exhaust gas Recirc. Valve).

It will be reduced, i don't think you can switch them off totally.

Hmmm - back to the drawing board as to why it just seems to run out of go now then.....

Need to get some of that electrical silicon grease from Maplins for the MAF switch though, that should be worth a go..

MAF's are pretty delicate. I'd make sure thats the fault before giving it an excuse to fail.
Maybe the EGR is a bit clogged and needs a good clean out?
failing that a double dose of millers and a good old "Italian Tune" may shift some unwanted cobwebs and perk it up a little

Well I'm sure I changed the values for it under Vag-Com - so maybe it was disabled.... either way pipe repaired, but probably didnt need to bother with it ...
