wet windows - on the inside

I know this thread has been discussed a few times, but the threads on the forum don't define what the solution is to the problem.

Basically the problem is that after rain or even washing the car when you wind the front windows down and then back up, they are wet on the inside. They streak and leave the glass smeared and wet.

It isn't the rubber transferring wet from the outside as the internal and external rubber faces are kept apart by the glass, so something is transfering moisture to the inside of the galss within the door body itself.

A couple of people are saying that they have had the problem fixed, but they don't know what the dealer did. I phoned 3 dealers and all say they have never heard of the problem.

So does anybody know what is causing the issue and the what a dealer would need to do to fix it. The car is less than a year old, but I don't want the dealer to start ripping the door cards off etc, without them having a solution first.

Any ideas.:confused:

Based on the weather in Scotland at the mo, it isn't an option to avoid wet windows by not using them for months until we have dry weather!

I think you might not understand. The windows go down dry, there is no inkling there is a problem and then they come back up sodden and streaky which actually doesn't make it easy to see through until they dry off.

It just shouldn't happen.

Wasn't saying it shouldnt happen or trying to be funny, just ive had my car since before xmas and i dont think ive opened the windows more than a couple of times... its either raining or its too cold!!! Thats what i meant about heating/air con.... why would you want to open the windows.... maybe im missing something here???

I have to open the windows to put the car park token into the machine when i leave work. Hence the car has been outside in the rain all day, I leave work, drop the window at the car park barrier and then put the window straight back up, and hey presto, soaking windows on the inside, This makes it difficult to see the mirrors as it is streaky and smeared and also it doesn't help with misting up of the rest of the car. Obviously the water drys with the air con on, but this takes a little time and isn't a 'real' solution for what would appear to be a design fault. Also once dry the windows are smeared and this can obscure the wing mirrors.:shrug:

In my opinion, we shouldn't have to 'find solutions' or 'work around' this. It just should not happen. If, when my new FR arrives, it does this then I'll be on the phone to the dealer (and/or SEAT UK) to get to the bottom of it.

My windsreen was misted up on the inside the other night with the worst condensation / water droplets I have seen since the 80`s. It reminded me of being in an old banger. As i did not want to dry with a cloth, had a/con on max for about 5 minutes, as could not see a thing. Cleaned glass when i got home with proper glass cleaner after washing first with water / fairy liquid. As I also get engine noise in the cabin in traffic from 2.0 tdi, perhaps down to a lack of decent sealing.

The very heavy condensation is one of the side effects of the problem I am describing. Essentially water is retained / absorbed by some sort of material in the door body itself, which creates a 'damp' cabin. This in turn creates excessive condensation.

I bet if you had lowered your side drivers window and then put it straight back up it would have been wet on the inside.

Altea owners are saying that SEAT technical know about the problem, but dealers deny this, and as yet I haven't had any solution described so that I can get the dealer to do something. I don't want them pulling the door body apart justrto have a look around. I'd much prefer to go armed with the info on how to cure the problem.

Sure i read on here a while back that seat know about this problem and some dealers have a 'fix' that requires doing something to the door seals.... as for the misting up on inside of the windows try closing the vents at night that helps....

As good as the car is to drive, these small 'design faults' are starting to p**s me off slightly, as we also have the 'owl' noise from the 2.0 TDI as adriaticman mentions above...[:@]

Time to speak to the dealer again and mention the 30 day exchange option...

If the outer is not frozen but close, wipe it clean, drive off, then 20 seconds later in a lane of 30 mph traffic, the windows from front to back are covered in heavy condensation, by this time im on a major A45 / A46 intersection roundabout & cant see a damn thing. Its lethal, my major only criticism of the car. Am I alone here being sent out blind on the road?!?!?!?

No your're not alone cupraII.
I was trying to clear the condensation from our windscreen with a squegee (leaving water dripping all over the top of the dash..) while my missus was trying to drive this morning - not to be recommended..:headhurt:
It is a potentially dangerous fault that needs to be recognised and corrected by Seat and their dealers, rather than being fobbed off as a lot of other owners appear to have been, looking at other threads on this subject...[:@]

This is really common, and i believe most people have got a large silica gel bag, weighs about a kilo, that helps massively. I have one and it's great.
