Since fitting EBC green pads i've noticed how much i like the GTI brake setup.

But....16v brakes are even better yes?

What would be needed to swap, just calipers, carriers, disks and pads?

:)

carriers, discs & maybe pads.... if the pads are worn a bit they 'fit' the same

256's are lame compared to 280's - just wait until you get a decent set of pads.

i threw my ebc greens as far away as possible

worst pads i have ever had full stop

got pagids now seem spot on

Be everything, but I think I could be in need of new pads shortly. I'll check.

I'm going to have a word with an engineering mate, and see how much to make the carriers for my AP's. I'll drop you a PM when I know.

i got 280's with up-rated disks and green stuff pads. Stops ace, but fade is terrible! One hard brake from 120 to standstill and before you come to a stop get terrible fade!!!

I had red stuff pads b4 which were good but usless when cold and lacked pedal feel due to hardness of pads

I can whole heartedly recomend pagid"blue" pads.not as pricey as ds 2500 though you get wgat you pay for.BUT they are head and shoulders above ebc green.and reds are for heavy cars /track use,so not best used day to day.
I have mintex Xtreme on my vrs and they are ok,nothing special, better than stanard, but the price reflects performance to ds2500.

I'm going to champion the DS2500's to, had some combined with some Tarox Sport Japan Disc's a few years back made the EBC Greens feel like butter!

The 280mm 16V Brakes are superb as std, I'm only going for Brembo's as most of my driving is down country lanes so come across allsort's of slow moving farm machineary & animals, usually after a blind bend!!

So 8v is 256mm and 16v is 280mm? Are the rear discs any different?

Correct me if I'm wrong but from what I know they are the following

8V pre-facelift <97 are 239mm from the MK2 Golf Gti
8V Post-facelift 97-99 are 256mm from the Mk2 Golf Gti 16v
1.8 16V are as Chris says 256mm
All 2.0 16V are 280mm Disc's with golf G60 Calipers which have been the essential brakes on any Tuned VW for as long as I can remeber!
