Have SEAT UK ran out?

Guys,

I'm a new member of the forum.

I'm asking on behalf of my sister who owns a LCR.

Can you answer this question for me please?

My sister has a 2005 LCR that requires some warranty work. The warranty expires in May.

Now my sister and brother in law have phoned two different garages to be told that they may not be able to fix the car as there are no more parts left in stock anywhere!
They said that once the new LEON came in to production that all the old parts were sold off to the other VAG companys. So the older shape LEON will now not have the parts to be put on it?

That is rubbish isn't it? they must have some stock left in the UK?

They also said that the they will not replace the CAT on the car as it is not a warranty issue. I find that hard to swallow when the car does only motorway driving week days and the odd shopping run at the weekends? The CAT has been replaced once already when the car was in for a service.
They cannot replace the n/s/f arch lining as its a different shape to the new car and is not a warranty issue.
And there are some other odd niggly bits to be attended too.

Can anyone answer if this is the case with SEAT UK please?

Thanks
Steve

in terms of the CAT its hard to argue, as exhuasts are a "consumable" item as per brakes etc so are never really covered on warranties-its part of their nice little loop holes

so far as parts running out, id sincerely hope this is rubbish, and if its not its pure retardation on seats part

Hi buddy,

In regards to the CAT, what I should have said is its should be within the 12 month warranty for parts under SEAT UK parts?
They also think they pads and discs may need to be replaced but in fairness they look fine.

I hope its rubbish too on the parts front. I know over time it can be harder to find the genuine parts on some cars. I have a 2002 STi Impreza and parts for comestics are becoming harder to find where as drivetrain wise most parts are inter changable.

Thats pretty ridiculous if they have stopped producing parts for it since when I had my mk3 golf VW barely had any parts for that NLA and that was 13 odd years old

What a load of rubbish! SEAT will continue to support cars for many years to come, why would they want to lose all the parts trade to other companies? If it was 10 years old maybe I'd understand, but it only went out of production 3 years ago.

The dealers are fobbing you off big time, report them to SEAT UK. I used to work at a main dealer (not SEAT) where they used to fob customers off and send them to other dealers, they got fined by the manufacturer.

it's EU law that spare parts must be accessible from a main dealer for 10yrs min

As m0rk said, they have to legally supply parts for cars 10 years after production stops of model. As far as cat goes its a tricky one cos sometimes even on a new car if cat fails then it might not be covered by warranty, although if its the second time its failed and you cant get it on warranty its perfect excuse for uprated cat and exhaust system,Seat will probably rip you off for cat anyway,miltek/piper springs to mind!.

I thought it was 10 years, but wasn't 100% sure.

I think Ford triggered this law by making the final Capris out of the old parts stock. Accident repairs and warranty work was a nightmare as there was simply nothing left!

Cheers guys.

I told my brother in-law about what you have posted. He called SEAT UK and the problem is being dealt with.
Its booked into somewhere (can't remember where adn I can't ask him as he is in France at present) but he said that its someone who used to work on the WTCC Seats that is doing the work for him on the car? I think its booked in at this place for the 1st Feb.

As for Cat pipe. I have told him that if that was the case to maybe swallow the cost of a Sports Cat full system. I had a Milltek system on my Impreza before I went full hog on a Roger Clark Motorsport "Team Ice" system but have never heard the Milltek system on a LCR?

There was a LCR round near me in Staines that had a Magnex system on. Sounded nice to be honest.

Again thanks for the input folks.

backorders can and do happen - worrying of its becoming normal though :(

i'm still flabbergasted that it's gone through more catalytic converters than oil filters

AS far as I know whena car is brought out teh manufacturer is obl;iged to maintain spares for 10years AFTER they stop production. Then they often seel moulds dies etc. to independants
