i'm having an absolute NIGHTMARE with my sub and amp at the mo, it keeps cutting off! been back to where it was fitted and had the amp tested, all fine, they 'checked' the wiring and told me that was fine too bu the bugger won't stay on, or come on at all! took it to Bass Junkies and they said it's a wiring problem, most likely the earthing connection thank god, took the new amp i just bought back and boked it in to be fixed tomorrow!

i assume i'm not the only nutter who needs obscene amounts of bass with their music [B)] lol, where is everyone else's amp earthed to?

passenger side rear light cluster earthing is what i used.

unscreew several bits of trim and peel back the carpet.theres a thick brown wire and a few others i think bolted to metal on the side, undo that bolt and slide the loop over it and then put everything back together.

i couldnt find any other bolts i felt like undoing and didnt want to start drilling holes

worst car i have ever fitted a sub in, pain taking the glove box and everything else apart.

Just pull back the side of trim on the left hand side of the boot. you will see loads of holes that are ideal for a 10mm nut and bolt. i put mine through there. will take a pic on the morning if you like?

mine is to the rear seat bult buckel lol done up as hard as i could turn my wrench and i ent week lol so its tight enough...(as its harder to unscrew now than when i first undone it) the shorter the earth cable the better to and remember to upgrade the cars chassis to the battery at the same time... ;)

 That's where I put mine on the seat belt nut, just was a pain in the ass as I had to buy a different socket as my old ones were pants!

took it to bass junkies and they diagnosed it as a horrendous wiring problem, they said the place i took it to originally should be shut down! £60 down the drain but at least its sorted!

I cant bloody find an earthing point first had it clamped onto the chassis in the boot with plastic screws worked well then my sub blew! It was bridged..(JBL GT4) silly me! The amp works still (JBL 755.6) I've tryed to hook the ground up to the seatbelt securing bolt but cant get the thing loosend! [:@] - broke my rachet trying! Now thinking of buying a 10mm Bolt and wiring up to chassis hole as mentioned above. Any ideas folks? ;)

use rear light cluster like i did.

pull the boot light out and unbolt the plastic cover thing its on then pull the carpet back and you will see some thick brown wires which bolt to the chassis, unbolt and then side your wire on if it has a loop connecter then stick the bolt back on

Warwickshire once.
the shorter the earth cable the better ;)

The earth needs to be sized to the same size as the supply cable as under fault conditions it will carry the same current as the supply cable and therefore allow the fuse to operate.

The length is not an issue as the car is not very big.

Generally the further you run the cable the larger the cable should be sized, however as your not going to be running huge currents through your cars stereo and the run length is measured in cm rather than metres I would generally say that you should be fine with 2.5mm2 cable. :D

Ps bad luck Dan, you've not been having the best of times with your car recently, think you need to PX it for a Cupra.

The earthing and power cables in my car is thick but I have heard this is only done for show and not really necessary. Houses are powered by thinner wire, is this correct?
