Diagnostic Port - WHERE? (URGENT!!)

Hi Guys,

I've broken down and got the RAC man on the way, last time I had them out they couldn't do the diagnostics because they couldn't find the port (supposedly under the ashtray is where they said it was)

Can someone ASAP tell me where the port is on my 53 Plate Ibiza 1.2?

I really appreciate your answers.

Behind the little compartment-mini-glovebox thing down and to the right of the steering wheel. You need to pull the compartment all the way down past the little bit of plastic where it stops at the top. Then you will see it near the bottom.

The guy from the RAC came and I was very impressed! He initially thought the port was under the aircon controls, but thankfully seatcupra.net came through and I managed to get the mini glovebox out and show him where it was.

However he didn't really need it, he turned the engine on and immediately diagnosed the problem by ear, just confirmed it with the laptop - which I was seriously impressed with, don't get many mechanics like that these days!

I'm from Seaford on the coast. But I'm a serious drive-aholic so can be found almost anywhere in Sussex, Still on my first Ibiza, had it since new and love it, will definately be buying another one in the next year or so.

Look forward to being a more active member of the forums now I've found them!

The problem was the #3 Coil has gone, he had a big box of VAG coil's but sadly none of them were the right size. Not his fault as they can't carry absolutely everything, so he towed me home and now I'm just scouring the net for the best price on a coil, RAC Guy said expect to pay about £40ish for a new one from a dealer.

Cheapest I have found online so far is £18.95 Ex. VAT. from HERE
Does anyone have any other ideas on where to get them cheap? I'm on a bit of a budget till the end of the month!

I think this is quite a common problem. Worse when it happens on a 1.2 as they are only 3 cylinder to start with...Not sure on places to find cheap coils but £20 is better than £40 from a dealer anyway!

Yeah it just died going up a hill, no warning or anything.
Couldn't get rev's up above 1200 and there was no power at all, Had to roll backwards down the hill into a layby!

All good fun at the end of the day,

The RAC Man recommended buying two coils as once one goes the others usually follow quickly, so keep the other as a spare in the glovebox in case it goes without warning again.

Glad you got it sorted have heard of coil going on the ibiza before unfotunetly. Your from Seaford not too far from me then, if you are a driveacholic you should come the one of the meets in the future!

That's the Mk4 Golf. Take out the bit of plastic under the controls.

Ohh yea that is true for Seat also I remember ^^. Dealer should replace for free
