Replacing parking light bulbs

I know its a total noob question, but I've tried all morning to get to the side light housing for the driver side parking light on my wifes PD130 tdi sport (used to be mine, passed it down when she made me a get a family safe Volvo S40 T5 - aren't I a good husband :D -(not really - I love that little car so I get best of both worlds)).

You must need the hands of a pixie to get in their because theirs about 2 inches of clearance I can't get to the rear of the housing.

Have tried taking the whole assembly out (removing the 2 torx screws on the top) but I couldn't get it free.

Could any one please please help me?

Thanks.

you can either take the bumper off, some peol on here do! Or get someone with smaller hands to help, I know its not easy especially with the diesel engine and the battery being in the way. I use a screwdriver to push the metal clips that hold the light cover on then destroy my hands!

Cheers Aimez, was thinking that might be the case. I did manage to change the passenger side bulb about 2 years ago, and thought the driver side would be easier - how wrong I was then, especially when its overcast and you can't see a thing.

Guess I'll do a little searching and figure out how to remove the bumper (might as well change all bulbs while I'm their - don't faccy doing it all again in a few months time!).

I took the bumper off to do mine as it was easier that way. There are 3 or 4 torx screws around each wheel arch, 4 on the top under the bonnet, 6 underneath the car and then a couple behind the front grill if I remember. Once it is slightly off, you can remove the other 2 screws which hold the headlamp in and pull it out slightly to replace the bulbs!!

yeah it is very difficult, possible even iwth my big hands! err, drivers side is pretty easy, did that in a few minutes! the battery side, best to take both battery covers off to get a lil more room!

You WILL end up with scratches galore on your hands!

Thanks for the replies chaps. Managed to get into it a bit easier by taking the back cover of the main beam enclosures first - gave me a few more centimeters to play with, just managed it (with a nice blood blister on my hand as a memento).

Got to give the accolade to the missus though, she offered to help (smaller hands and all that) when she said - "wait a minute, wouldn't removing that bit give you some more room" - genius!

I tell you, that DS with brain training game I got her for xmas has paid for its self already

I did mine a couple of weeks ago and as you said, found it much easier once I'd taken off the main beam cover. It's very tight though and the thought of dropping something out of reach definitely focuses the mind!!

I don't think the indicator bulb would be possible. I am hoping I never have to replace one!

If you ever have to do the lights on the passenger side, then take the top and front battery covers off and it's fairly easy.
