Streetka vs LC

Before you laugh, I know it seems like a pointless match up but it's to clear up an argument I'm having with the other half about fuel consumption. She won't have it that her 1.6 Ford Streetka is (or should be) more economical than our 1.8 turbo charged beasts :wtf: Much as I hate to emphasise this money-sapping feature, I can't let her think she's right :p

So I said I'd get 3rd party confirmation if someone could oblige? I've told her the only way she'll get less mpg than me is if I drive like my Gran and she drives like she stole hers :D

Incidentally, the argument came up because we're trying to decide who drives to the Autosport show in Birmingham on Saturday. I understand there's a Pistonheads Run going from Elland Road in Leeds - don't suppose anyone from here's going on that?

Dude, you canna turn up to a motor show in a Ka....lol
Nae much street cred in a Ka
Maybe let her drive your car, that way you'll get the street cred, you'll get a pint and she'll probably drive more economically than you

Balls to the slight difference in fuel economy, can you live with yourself for turning up in it?
And what about the comforts of the leon for the journey?
Hang your head in shame

Dont let her think shes right......... Never let a woman think shes right or the world will end up with women like Mrs Clinton trying to run in office. Imagine a woman running the country at a time when war is breaking out!!!!!

Sending the boys off to war with a packed lunch.

By all means let here drive the Leon but dont take the Ka or I might joun you in Birmingham and bully you, pull your pants down in front of everyone and laugh real loud.

Just read this thread.

Funnily enough, my other half drives the StreetKa (I know, sorry guys, but she likes it :ban:)

It is a very thirsty engine, and in my opinion, a very badly engineered engine. Never worked out the MPG, but I'm afraid it is very similar to the 1.8T.

They should have put the 1.4 16v engine in it.

P-torpue- i totally agree with you and i wouldnt be a bit suprised it the ka isnt that far off in the MPG stakes.
I had an 06 1.25 zetec fiesta (courtesy car) for a few weeks a while back and was looking forward to saving some cash in an economical run about (trying to see the positive in having to drive it lol), but the bloody thing was terrible on juice and i mean awful (handled really well though on a positive). I know a few of the blokes in the garage and they all agreed and the manager reckons that they were worse on fuel than his 323 bmw cos he thought that by using a courtesy car in the week would save him money 2.
Makes me wonder how thirsty the ST must be!!!? Missus wants one next (for her, im keeping the leon for a good while and then it will be an M3 :)).

some cars catch people out. For example.

The Mini Cooper 1.6 115bhp has worse fuel consumption than the Cooper S 170bhp, only due to cooper having a 5 speed box and the S a 6 speeder.

the ford 1.6 ain't the best, still Street ka's were only ever designed to get theowner to gay pride once a year and the occasional trip to Brighton .....lol

The same could be said for the mini ;)

I thought you were trying to encourage her to allow you to take the Leon, are we all wrong in this.
Just let her do what she wants and you get pissed and eye up the tidy pit girls:-o

Let her win - just this once.

As long as you're prepared to accept that she'll never ever ever let you forget at this one. They never do.

In fifty years time in front of your grand children she'll say 'can you remember years ago when people drove fossil fuelled machines....'

My gf's got a Ka that I've been using whilst waiting to pick up my leon, and I could drive it like I'd knicked it and doubt I could get it below 35mpg in all honesty! If I drive it pretty hard for a tankful of petrol I'll normally get around 40mpg over the lot, madness. It seems to run on nothign too, I've had it around 350miles on a tank and it still happily ticks along even though the needle hit the bottom of the fuel guage at like 320 (this was an emergency mind)

The Fiesta ST has a different engine to the 1.25 Fiesta.
I had a Mk4 1.25 Fiesta for a few months. I gave that car hell and my petrol bills reflected that.

The 1.6 Ka is both slow, lazy, high-revving and uneconomical. Worlds apart from the VVT 1.7 in the Puma. Why didn't they use the 1.7 in the StreetKA? That or the Sport KA. Rather than an ineffecient and slow 1.6? Pfft.

Anyway - let her drive the Leon. Problem solved.
