Faulty Indicator Earth?

Hey guys,

My first offical problem post since I got the Leon so hoping that some of you more knowledgable owners shall be able to give me an answer or point me in the right direction.

The issue is that my drivers side front indicator over the last few days has been randomly deciding that it shall not work.

I have already ruled the bulb out as the source of my problems however I tested the unit whilst it was disconnected from the actual light unit and it appeared to work fine whilst lying out in the engine - the problem only seems to happen when the indicator is fully inserted into the light casing.

I am therefor thinking that it may be some sort of earthig issue or similiar?

As I am still relatively new to the Leon I am unaware of the "Common problems" associated so I am not sure if there is a pattern whereby there is a problem with indicators - so any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Mark

Thanks for the reply buddy.

I am assuming that my best option is to replace the whole white casing unit? or is it reliable enough to "bend" the old pins back into place.

Rhyme - I had the problem with my indicator where the front stopped working and made the indicator each time I used it click double fast. It was very annoying.

Some guys on here suggested cleaning the contacts and as said above bending the contacts. Clean no good but bending the contacts carefully did the job and had no problem since.

If this sounds the same on yours, I would recommend bending the bottom contact up a bit and the side contact out a bit. I used an al key but anything that can get under the contact will do. If you do this, no need to get a new holder.

From what I understand this is a common problem. I would not have thought to bend the contacts had it not been mentioned on here!

Thanks for the replies people.

I am going to attempt to bend the connectors this evening after college, should this not resolve the issue then I shall just replace the whole little unit to fix the problem - hopefully - once and for all...

Once this is sorted I shall have to look into why my windows randomly open halfway when I open the doors using my remote central locking.

Thanks again

I did just that after ages pi$$ing around trying to bend the contacts only for the problem to reappear. New one cost me a fiver from the dealer, and the contacts are a new better design that should stop this happening.

Edit: part number is S1H0953123F it's a "G15A holder" and was £5.24! :)

Jumped into the stealer on the way home and got one with the uprated spiral connection - only a fiver.

The guy even gave me a free bulb just to make sure it would deffo be sorted.

All is well - Mark
