LC Clutch Opinions/answers needed!!

Evening all,

I have posted before about clutch problems but need another opinion on it.

I have an LC 62k miles on a Y plate. Before I thought I was having clutch problems as in it slipping when flooring but it doesn't do the usual rev spike then drop off which is the norm when your clutch is about to give up the ghost.

With mine is that I put the car into second after giving first a bit of welly (not from standing start) and the revs seem to stick at around 4k rpm. At the same time the accelerator is about half pressed in. After taking my foot off the loud pedal and back on it will pull fine.

Have had the problem mostly in 4th but happened in 2nd, 3rd and 4th the other week when booting it. Doesn't do it all the time, won't do it driving normally only when changing gear a bit quick I suppose.

Have tested the clutch and it's ok, I'm thinking along the lines of clutch master/slave cylinder. Although if someone could tell me if the clutch is hydraulic or cable operated.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Cheers

Quite hard to understand that, but booting it in 2nd this time of year and your likely to get wheelspin surely? Revs holding at 4000 to me indicates spinning.

If your clutch is worn you would expect to see as you said slippage noticable with the rev counter.

Are you sure its clutch related and not ecu or mechanically related, ie maf/N75 etc?

Do you get slippage for instance when popped into 6th at low rpm and planting the foot? If not then i would say your clutch was fine :)

Clutchmaster/slave cylinder to me would show itself with actual clutch pedal problems?

I agree with Mitchy - it doesn't scan as a clutch problem to me from your description above. I'd be looking at ECU and throttle problems - perhaps see if you can get a VAG-COM scan?

Thanks for the reply guys.

Getting back to Mitchy about the wheel spin, I don't get the traction light flashing when this happens and I don't get any juddering through the steering wheel.

I would like to get it on a vag-com just to see if anything is turning up but I don't know where I could take it to get it done. I'm in South Wales so which place is best to get it scanned.

Thanks Guys

It is possible to loose traction without the light coming on
Not for a long period of time but for a split second it is possible

I do agree with that, it can be possible for the light not to show.

Thinking of it, going back to Leigh15, the possibility of a throttle problem comes to mind. I may have had this problem before with another car with the throttle sticking.

Sounds like the clutch to me as its very simular to what i was getting its like when the boost cuts in the clutch slipps just enough to let the revs rise :( anyway is the biteing point at the very top of the pedal too coz that will give you an idear if the clutch is near to the end of its life.

I just had the clutch replaced today from an independant garage just down the road and cost me £300 fitted that was £150 cheaper than Mr Clutch quoted me

The clutch pedal biting point is near enough in the middle. I don't get the revs rising without the acceleration as in the clutch is slipping.

The revs seem to stick at 4k rpm after I have changed up a gear, let the clutch up and pressed the accelerator.

It could be the induction hose collapse'ing that can happen between 4/5000rpm ?

hi, i have just had my 2004 tdi 150 remapped to around 190-195 bhp by angel tuning, when i accelarate hard in 3rd and 4th gear the rev's jump quickly between 2-3000 revs before returning to normal. Does this mean there is to much power for he clutch as the clutch seems to be in the middle of its life.

thanks
