Whats the best diesel additive to clean the injectors on my Ibiza TDI 100? Is Redex the best or is that just the same as Wynns or STP?

I use Wynns on 2 petrol cars currently going. Couldn't tell the difference on one but the could just on the other which has 115k. If you use it as they suggest ie regularly then you probably won't 'feel' any difference between uses.

You could try using some Millers Diesel Power Plus with each fill, if you can find a stockist.

Cleaning injectors is one of the things it's supposed to do, but it also makes your engine a bit quieter/smoother, and helps a little bit on performance. About £7 or £8 a bottle which treats 500 litres (around 10-12 tanks if you fill from empty and vent to brim each time).

Sounds like good stuff. Will try out a bottle and see, after all its only £8 like.
Is it just me or does anyone else ever go out to there car sometimes and just randomly feel that the gear change and general driving is smoother?

or just stick to using fuel like BP Ultimate which already comes with a lot of these type of additives already in it. Couple of the guys here have used it for 6 months on their diesels and they swear they have got quieter.

redex do a once every 3000 miles diesel treatment in a gold box, its sposed to clean injectors etc... jus wondering if anyones had any experience with it... theres plenty of posts on SCN about these kind of products but the comments are usually based on how they improve performance per treatment not on the cleaning properties and after effects... my cars 4 years old n just done 50k, wouldnt mind runnin some kinda "once in a while" additive through as i dont leave near any garages selling "ultimate" diesel etc...

Hi BigFish

Thanks for bringing my thread back from the dead. I no longer own the said car i started this thread about, but thanks to modern technology i received a e-mail from the forum informing me someone had written on this thread!

Anyway i have 2 recommendations for you:

Firstly: Millers Diesel Power Sport 4

and

Secondly: X-1 R Diesel System Treatment

I've been using millers for a couple of years (on and off) and found it works best if you double or sometimes triple the dosage for a few full tanks. I've just put a bottle of X-1 R into my tank so i will try and let you know if its any good (it should be as the company is in the NASA Space Technology hall of fame).

Hope this helps

hi... thanks for the quick reply... are the two products you mentioned designed to be used every time you fill up or once in a while treatments...? not really too keen on constantly runnin pour-in additives thru my system, rather opt for summat u just use occasionally to clean all the crap out...

X 1-R recommends treatment every 5,000kms or 3 months. Millers is more of a every tank treatment additive.

Ever since 2000, when I bought a Rover 25 TDI, I have been using the Rover garage's recommended additive : FORT'e. It is known to clear-out the pipes & injectors, and results in a guaranteed MoT pass for particulates. ( also confirmed by my TOYATA salesman, whose father runs diesel, with the help of this additive ).
£7.50 + VaT buys 400 ml, which treats 100 litres of diesel, but I just chuck the lot into my 45 litre tank, for rapid effect.
The Rover foreman said that they used it to get rid of an algae which scums-up the pipes etc, and is caused by the water content in diesel. Once every 6 months was recommended.
The effect is obvious :-- smooth, quiet surge.
That garage also has a standard practise of clearing the engine of carbon at every oil-change, using an oil-flush additive, which is run in the engine for 20 minutes, prior to the oil-change.
Apparently most garages agree this is good practise due to the vulnerability of hydraulic tappets to particulates, and as my Son's SEAT IBIZA 12V uses these, and another for pushing the timing-chain-tensioner, I shall be having his car cleaned-out at 6-monthly oil changes, in this manner, and the top-grade MOBIL 1 ESP 5W30 used, to combat arduous city driving.
There are many brands of flusher, including "FORT'e".

I think that Forte oil flush was first thought to be essential in the days of dino oil causing black death in Ford and VX engines. Nowadays, if you use your car for longer out of town driving and use quality fully synthetic oils then the need to flush is not too urgent - but if you just do start stop driving in heavy traffic and/or use cheap oils then you should use these products in your oil - or wise up and use a bus(!). As for using the fuel additives, I rather using quality fuels as said already (Esso,BP,Shell) rather than cheaper supermarket fuels with no or little additives in them. I try to use Redex (petrol engine) in both cars once or twice a year at the higher cleaning strength - but now newer Redex (green) does not advise on light or heavy dosing. Also when using the older Redex I found the engine to feel "better and give more MPG on that tank full, using the newer Redex did not give either result - but remember the dosage was just a bit above the directed dose for regular use - ie every tankful.
