A/C problems!

I'm having trubble with my 03 LC's aircon...

The climate contol system has an intermitant problem. Sometimes the snowflake will turn it's self off and wont let you turn it back on again. The switch works because as you press the button the snowflake appears, but once you let go it goes off. The windscreen mists up very easily when this happens but it only seams to happen occasionally.

Can anyone help. I don't want a big garage bill at this time of year...........

does it happen when the weather is very cold? the air con unit does not work below a certain temperature i believe (about 3 degrees?)

Is it when it is cold outside? I beleive the air conditioning system will deliberately not work when it's freezing temperatures outside to protect itself from damage.

yeah, it's meant to do that - the owners manual will also explain this! Got me worried the first time I noticed it though...

Thought the snowflake was the cooler pump?
If so this will not be needed when cold outside as the air doesn't need further cooling

Air conditioned air is dry air and clears the screen a lot faster than non air conditioned air.

Of course the fact the air con won't operate below 2-3 degrees, when condensation is a big problem, is a royal pain.

LOL thanks for this guess I should have tried the manual, but as the windows wont demist without the a/c on I thought it must be a fault.

While the lack of demisting is a problem. Having a much colder air temperature also makes demisting easier. Just wack the heat on full blast for a bit and open the window, this should allow more of the water vapour to escape and not re-condense after leaving the car.

You know, think about a hot climate dude. What's typically different about the air...?

Humidity perhaps??

aye fair enough about the hot humidity but cold air has high and low humidity too

But, when we're talking about the temps here (0degrees) in the UK this creates very dry and "crisp" air in the mornings. So if you can remove the condensation in the car and leave a window open, you shoud be drying out your car as well.
