How many people actually inform their insurers of increased bhp ? and anyone had problems making a claim . ?

I bought a tdi that was advertised at 150 bhp but turns out to be nearer 200.
not complaining , lovely to drive and loads of fun . but what's the legal angle ?

I told insurance about my remap and all other mods,it hasnt increased premium a big amount and thought it was better to be up front with them, its hard if not impossible to detect a remap bar looking at ecu,and i dont think most insurance companies go to all the hassle of that, but it wouldnt take alot to see the bright red roll bars or induction kit cos these stand out so thought might as well be straight with them about everything.

The legal angle is that your 200bhp beast is not insured. Neither are you.

It's nigh on impossible, but not totally impossible, to detect a remap. Do you want to take that chance? Is it worth it for the piece of mind?

Contact greenlight insurance and they give FREE remap cover, so your insurance may even come down in price if the quote is competetive.
Get it declared though mate.

Declare it mate, its not the cost of reparing cars if you crash, its the payout to any injured people, so you do kind of need to be covered by valid insurance. I personally couldnt afford to pay out compensation to somebody who had to take six months of work because we had crashed into each other. Give Greenlight a shout, they charge £25 for any changes to your policy but your premium wont change at all. And they are very competitive.

The insurance would still pay out any third part injuries. They just wouldn't pay for your damage.

Greenlight cover the remap free, others don't charge very much. But at the same time, realistically they're never gonna know.

But it's up to you.
