Help!

Booked it in at the local Kwik Fit  just cause it's near to work. It's failed on a specialist exhaust bracket?!

Anyone know the approx cost this might be so I know if they try and sting me!

Thx

Sara

Failed on a what? Hmm - sounds like baloney to me .... most exhausts come with brackets already attached, if they become detached they can be welded on. Unless there is a hole in the exhaust and it's in such a state that it can't be fixed then you'd need a new exhaust. Have they given you a price yet or told you exactly where this 'specialist' bracket has broken?

the centre bracket on the leon cupra and R often break. Apparently not that easy to weld back on.
Mine failed, im my case they simply put on one of the standard generic 'U' shape exhaust brackets on. Good to go. passed retest no probs.

Some garages work on a commision based system... therefore they are not helpful when something needs more than 3 seconds thought as its easier and gives more commission if they just replace the whole thing.

Get it repaired somewhere else.

yep mine did the same. think the dealer sorted it... wasnt much money but cant really remember.

personally id wip to the dealers ... get a quote, then try a couple of decent garages..

theres a garage in sayers common who services a few leons and has done mots on mine... pm me if you want there number;)

Hmmmmm:think:

Mine passed the last 2 MOT with that bracket broken. They put it under 'advisory'....

shows you how much difference there is place to place.

I get mine MOT'd at a place that dont do repairs, so its a fair test every time.
They put it down as exhaust not secure. Think they fail its as if its got a bracket its there for a reason..

I know someone who had a nasty accident on the motorway when their exhaust fell off at about 70 mph.
It actually caught under the car and lifted the car (like a pole vaulter) clean off the ground and put it back down at a different angle so the car immediately left the road.

However, when my original leon bracket broke a garage said to me that they go all the time, same on golfs and not to worry about it..

The only reason I took it there was cause it was next to my work! I got my tyres online and fitted else where.

I have a spare exhaust in my shed as when I had it serviced in April at the TT shop they said was really rusty, I wasn't sure what bit they ment though! They've quoted me £400 to fit and supply. Seat charge £137 +VAT for the part. Still they can get stuffed!

I'm guessing the bracket has made a hole in the exhaust? I guess the best thing to do is get my spare fitted elsewhere and getting it retest else where?

i really dont think you need to get it replaced. its the bracket thats failed not the exhaust having a hole in it.
I would have thought a hald decent garage could weld something on.

(i also know some have just taken the bracket off).

Yeap.. your right.. I double checked and the backbox is fine and they said it can just be welded (after they tried to sell me a £400 new exhaust). I've told them I'll be getting it welded and then back for a free re-test.

Thanks everyone that replied! :)

Have you got any pics? How long you owned the car? and, if you dont mind, I can find out the full test history of your motor and let you know what its failed on in the past as well as advisories but I need the reg:).

Yes every garage has a difference of opinion but the manual they use states that a alternative mounting device can be used as long as the system is not likely to fall away from the vehicle. So you could use some cable ties to get it through the test. Its prob neve gonna fall away with that bracket missing so should be ok.

My mk1 failed its 1st mot due to a broken exhaust bracket(a common issue I believe)but the car was still under warranty and in the dealers at the time,so they replaced the back-box.You should maybe give that a try if your car's still under warranty.

If the car's having it's first MOT it must be 3 years old - ergo it's out of warranty.

You could try SEAT UK for a good will gesture on a common fault - not sure they'd play ball though - exhausts are wear items. 0500 22 22 22

i got quoted £245 (not inc labour) last year on my MOT for the same thing. I needed to drive to london from manchester the next day so told them to crack on with the new bracket as that was the only thing it failed on. Half an hour later they phoned saying they couldn't get hold of a new one so they'd weld it instead and that would pass the MOT. So i went for that and it cost me £20 and a year later its still spot on. Bunch of chancers alot of places but i suppose in their shoes you'd do the same.
