hey people.

apart from selling my cupra, how could i go about improving fuel economy.

i drive quite sensibly, 5th gear at 30, and not ragging it.
i have the mods listed in my sig, but just wondering if there are any tips to improving the fuel economy.

just had my tracking done, and tyre pressures checked. thanks

Do you have a boost gauge?

I commute a lot, if I keep at under 10mmHg vac for the majority of my commute (can be any speed from 60-80mph) I generally average 38.5mpg which is about 380mi/tank

Going on boost drops it quite a lot, I had a "fun" weekend recently and had to fill up after 250mi and was averaging 29mpg

well did a small test.... 27mpg is what i was getting.

took my d/v off

now i'm getting 35/36mpg, according to the computer! so i'm alot happier with that!!

do the recirculating d/v's effect fuel economy much??

thats your first problem as your putting strain on the engine and so you use more fuel!
30 in 3rd or 4th is more sensible!!

just drive in a sensible gear for the speed and that will improve mpg

dont acccelerate up hills and use lower gears to maintain speed.....hight gear low throttle for going down slopes etc etc

The ibiza cupra's have a plastic recirculating d/v as standard, so a forge d/v shouldn't effect fuel economy in the slightest as its just a more reliable item.

Do you mean you've put the standard plastic bosch one back on?

i had an atmospheric one fitted so i'm guessing that made the difference.
it appears to be fine now :) so i think i'll stick with the standard d/v until i can afford another recirculating one. i'll also stick with 4th at 30 :p thanks lads!

exchange it for a 1.4 :D

in fact, i'll do you a straight swap :D

lol saying that mat.. i have to dissagree. running a 1.4 for over a year now and i must admit if im having 'fun' in the 1.4 i wont even see 300 - 320 out of a tank. on a good sensible pure motorway run at 70 all the way i managed to squeeze 420 out of a tank.

i personally think the 1.4 and 1.6 sport have equally crap mialage and no performance compared to the 1.8t engines.

Have to say if im super lucky i get 225miles out of a tank thats £50s worth of Optimax a bloody week.

But they didnt build the cupras for old grannys, otherwise they would be called a TDI
