Swirls in Paint on Black Car

Got my Inferi Black Cupra back in July and have noticed swirls appearing in the paint work when the sun shines on the car.

I have never been in a car wash with the car, but have used the brush at the jet wash.

Couple of questions

1. Could the brush at the jet wash cause swirl marks in the paint.

2. Would polishing the car get rid of the swirls?

I also have the Autoglym Lifeshine on the car which seems to be a complete waste of space.

Cheers

1. Could the brush at the jet wash cause swirl marks in the paint.

Yes it deffinatly would. Even useing a pressure washer to close can drag grains of dirt accross the paint with force and cause swirling.

2. Would polishing the car get rid of the swirls?

Yes pollishing would remove the swirls. Depending on how bad they are it may need a machine polisher with good techniques and polish to remove them. They can be done by hand, although would take elbow greese and time. Try a polish that has fillers like Autoglym SRP and mask them. Or even a glaze products which will fill them.

I also have the Autoglym Lifeshine on the car which seems to be a complete waste of space.

According to many detailers it isn't that grate. It has to be kept right using there wash and top up systems. The first time you go to a foam car wash the heavy TFR's they use will strip the coating. I would suggest, removing it ( by polishing ) again it may need a machine polish. Then use the proper steps to seal the paint. Weither you like a proper sealant a LSP wax or both. Doing this will enhance you paintwork and make the best out of it.

Cheers for the replies.

I got some of the Autoglym SRP with the car, so will give that a try.

The swirls are just on the surface, so hopefully should be able to do something about them.

The stealer told me that the Autoglym lifeshine required no maintenance to retain the coating...

110% the brush & possibly using a leather

Best bet is to use a bucket witha gritguard in place & a lambs wool wash mitt, & to dry with a microfibre drying towel.

AG SRP will help hid the swirls as its got lots of "fillers" in it, but as its a "cleaner wax" you can also inflict minor marring if you apply to hard. Best bet is to get some of the megs 3 stage kit & start there, & also get some decent foam allpicators & microfibre cloths for removal (old t's dont help any)

You can get all these bits from http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/

1- yes without a doubt

2- unlikely to remove with hand polishing, using fillers will mask them, until you wash it again, and the polish is washed away.

Ag lifeshine is pants IMHO, not worth diddly squat. Best bet is to invest in good wash techniques and the itmes to do it yourself.

The paint is very very soft on the Inferi Cupra , i washed mine ( first time yesterday ) and it's got lines ( not swirls ) that you can see in the sun! i used a lambs wool wash mitt and a waffel weave drying towel !

I took great care and was really gentle too !

Would a good polish remove them ?

Thanks

Leon,

I've got Autoglym Ultra Deep Shine to try on mine, but not had time and the weather to try it properly yet. Did one of the C pillers and it made a bit of difference, but don't think I'll ever get them out fully:(

To be honest mine had slight swirls in from new.

Doesn't mean the paint is soft. It depends what you dragged across it and how hard. VAG paint is well known as being pretty hard. If it were japanese or French then quite possibly would have soft paint. However no 2 cars are exactly the same but I would hazard a guess you don't have soft paint.

If the deale prepped the car before you picked up the keys then not surprised that they had inflicted some swirls. You will get around 90-95% of them out with a full machine polish. Hard to say but would be surprised if you couldn't especially if they are only faint. A full machine polish will work wonders and the ideal base for a good glaze and wax to protect the paint and make it look like it should do when you pick up a new car.

I would have to agree - The only way to remove the swirls is to machine polish -Hand glaze - Final wax.

Oh....And no more visits to the car wash!!

I know i am late on the reply here, but i have found the best car detailing process to be

1. Meguiars GOld Class Shampoo
2. Microfibre towel Drying
3. Meguairs Detailing Clay
4. Meguiars Scratch X
5. Meguiars tech 2.0 wax

I know it sounds as though i work for meguiars now, but i don't, :) just thought i would say, that gives me perfect reflections and no swirls in my paint
