Possible power loss at high speeds

Hi All.

I think my car has lost some power top end (55 reg 1.9 stylance 16500 miles) as when i reach a ton, the car takes forever to pull more speed, despite when buying the car it pulled all the way to 125 without problems.

I cant really ask the dealer at this stage, as for one the speeds are illegal on british motorways, and wont it invalidate my warranty pushing the car to top speedS??

Thanks

Hi Marsden,

Yeah I'd get it checked out if I were you, your country is depending on you!

With British industry on its knees, the NHS losing billions of pounds a year, schools struggling to afford books and equipment, we could surely not withstand yet another blow to the country's economy.

I call upon you and all the other members of this forum to stand up, be counted, and make this country great once more by supporting the one and only financial success that this government has.......

Did this happen with less than 1/4 tank and or change in fuel??. The ECU will derate [less power] if fuel is coming in at a higher temp or a blockage to the charge air cooler, either excessive temps will cause a performance drop some fuels have been known to upset the ECU's.When was your last service by the way?

Sorry to the delay in the post.

Just had my 20k service at 16500 miles. When the car reachs 100mph, and i hold the car at this speed, it then takes age to gain any speed once i try again.

All the way from the line to around 85 to 90 it fine, its just once it gets past those speeds. Also how will i prove this to seat as i live in the UK - as we all know speeds like that are illegal?

No change in fuel, its been doing it for a while, but could the cold weather be affecting it?

Even better "Track Day" , surely this wont affect your warranty

If it's not pulling right then SEAT should look at it..... just so happens that it's only from 90mph upwards so they have to take it on track or onto a "rolling road" to test this :)

Check fuel filter may be clogged up, don't really know much about diesels. Check the CAT isn't knackered and all clogged up. Other servicable items like the air filter, check to see whether that is nice and clean. Do you do mainly short journeys? If so go give it a blast to clear it out!

the car is driven hard everyday and has only just had its 20k service.

Ill have to take it seat again, and maybe end up with a kia ceed as a loan car :( again . . .

It sounds a bit like a MAF problem, you can unplug the sensor and see if the problem goes away (might be a bit lumpy at tickover though).

Worth a shot... I had similar symptoms on my 1.9 Diesel Golfs...

Hi

Tried this out a little last night (after the rain had stopped) acceleration to 95mph was OK but a little slow upto 105mph, I didn't really want to go any faster. Bearing in mind the car is only good for 114mph on paper it didn't seem out of the ordinary to me.

My old astra 2.0 DTi was similar in it's performance and was only good for 117mph on paper.

ill tell you now the paper is incorect. I have had 130 before this problem happened. I am thinking about having it chipped but unsure where to go and if its safe or will it void warrenty etc.

could someone send me a pic of the maf and tell me how to unplug it or whatever and I'll give that a go. will it damage anything?

thanks again

Thats an indicated 130? Whist on a private test track recently, I had mine showing 130, but the sat nav said I was doing 121. It was pulling well all the way up there though.

The sat nav was getting confused though, it thought I was doing 121 accross a field :D

This isn't helping you with your question though. I'd say take into a dealer for a diagnosis at least. MAF certainly sounds like a good starting piont.

id check and clean your air filter first mate. its not occuring at a rev level in every gear? just when you hit a certain speed?

sounds like fuel or air starvation? no expert tho:whistle:
