I didn't realise my FR TDI was that fast...

...until I drove a 1.4 petrol Ibiza!!! (sorry, no offence meant to beeza drivers)

The FR is currently at the dealers due to the Diagnosis/Pollution light being on (still under warranty), and they kindly gave me an Omni Ibiza. It handles nice and the interiors OK (it has full kit and better interior than the std), but it has no guts whatsoever. Got onto a dual carriageway, put my foot down and for a minute I thought it had stalled. I will never take for granted again the shove in the back you get when the turbo kicks in!!!

(OK, so comparing a N/A petrol engine against the 1.9 lump maybe isn't fair....it was just a bit of a surprise actually how underpowered it felt)

I think I'm right in saying some 1.4 Ibizas only have 75bhp, so half of what's in your Leon and with probably less than half the torque, it's always going to feel slow.
My younger brother has the 100bhp 1.4 Ibiza, it's a great little car for someone his age, it handles well and sounds good when revved.

yes i always used to notice it when i had a courtesy car from the dealer, the lack of torque surge can really catch you out.

I used to have those 1.2 petrol Ibizas for the day also as a courtesy car.

I was so glad to get back into my car!

I had one of these over the weekend as my FR was getting a new windscreen and ABS/Traction module.

I managed to get it above 60MPH, but had to go down a steep hill

I think ur'll find the 1.2's arent 55bhp at all people! They are 70PS! Meaning 68bhp of pure... err... something

Anyway, I thought the 1.2 I had last week was a h00000t to drive, I liked the idea of not knowing if the car would make gaps in time, or that all it would take is the people carrier to give it some and id look a tit!

What confused me was the fact that when I had one as a CC, it drank fuel compared to the Cupra TDI....madness!

Small beezers are dangerous!

I had a 1.4 as a courtesy car, I thought that was bad - seriously thought it was a 1.2 - shocked

1.2!.......mummy!

I drove a mates 260bhp meganne F1 at the weekend, noticed the ride was softer than the FR, which suprised me a lot, as the meggy felt super hard before I got the FR.

I also noticed that it got to 130 bpm very quick

I thought I'd better ad this caveat to this thread as I don't want to offend the small beezer brothers!

My comments were relative - I don't think that my diesel cupra, type R or even the blade or the Blackbird are fast - just quick - its just what you get used to I suppose.

It's a sort of poisoned chalice as no matter what you get, you'll always want more

It's only when you run out of road when you really understand what speed you are doing!

P.S. bike or car no accidents in 18 years yet - touch wood! I'm sure it'll happen one day

have to say that when i had mine in for a service, the only car they could offer us was a Suzuki swift as a loan car...

don't know what engine it had (i'd guess a 1.0 is it?), but lets just say i seemed to have my foot permanently drilled against the accelerator stop and no matter how many revs were on the dial it just seemed to make more noise and not get any faster! - an adjuster for noise i reckon it had fitted not for accelerating!

Lets just say when i went to pick up my car from the service it made me think about how lucky i was to have the power again!
