probably get lynched but try a leon cupra and get it remapped by p-torque to 215bhp, fit an induction kit and a forge tip and your at the cupra r, get a facelift cupra nd its pleasing on the eye!

i get average 32mpg, b road 25 mile commute and thats with remap, induction and tip.

and a heavy right boot.

17 inch wheels so tyres are average 80-100

service at an independant 80 quid.

coilpacks go but 25 quid to fix and a 10 minute job.

I have achieved 400+ from my tank, filling it back up with 58 litres (55l tank)

But god was it boring, a long motorway drive in the same day never taking the needle above 3000rpm and done as an experiment as to see the range of the tank. From memory it was around 420 miles on optimax.

Generally though i get around 300-320 miles just tootling to work and back. (This is going 20 miles past the 0 aswell)


Taking 300miles to tank/12.5gallons (57-58l) = 24mpg

My worst tank of fuel was 185miles to 58 litres when it was being mapped and run on RR :blink: 185/12.5 = 14.8mpg:-o

Minus brembos, 18's, K04 setup, bodykit, interior, suspension etc etc.

Do the same to LCR and instead of 215hp have 270 ;)

And be pushing pesky 265hp Audi S4's out of the way :D ;)

hehehe now that would be funny, some of the guys over at rs246.com would be proper fuming lol.

Nah, i did look at the Cupra, but i just really like the looks of the R and the brembo's and K04 setup so it's the R for me. Assuming i can get the money i need for my S4 adn then find an LCR for that same money... just bought a flat too so will prob have to wait until i move apres crimbo.

Jesus boys!! stop boring the man with our MPG stories, if he was really that concerned about MPG he'd drive a diesel.

lol good point, whilst the car's ability to play nicely with my wallet is a factor, i think i'd prob be suicidal going from the S4 to a boring oil burner, i do still wanna be able to have a larf in my car, i got a couple of mates one with a celica and one with a Fiat Coupe that i go on road trips with so i need to be able to keep up with them at very least, preferably show 'em a clean pair of heels ;) ... The Cupra-R seems to tick these boxes for me :)

jb7_uk, point to think about. The Fiat coupe driven well will give you serious problems, that is one very understated car. When buying your LCR I would have a rather large pot of modifying cash on the side. Being used to the 4WD you will want to tinker quickly with the handling set up.

Good point Junior, although the Fiat is only th 16v version, not the slightly beefier 20v although it is surprising, he's not a million miles of my std S4 up to about 90 then it's game over for him. Oh and The Stig he is not ;)

What kinda handling mods would you reccomend? what's a ball park figure for a decent remap too?

Front ARB Neuspeed 25mm and Rear ARB Neuspeed 28mm Approx £200
Dog bone mount £30 (controls the engine movement)
Good tyres either Good year eagle aysmmetrics £120 each or Michelin PS2 £135 each
Remap £500 (for this you'll need say BMC CDA CAI £180, 4 Bar FPR £60, Forge DV £60)
A very good exhaust that is custom made for the LCR £1,100 for 3" DP, 200 Cell race CAT (will pass MOT) and 3" free flow system to 6" x 4" oval back box (NICE!!)

He did ask in O.P about running costs matey:rolleyes:

Jb7...Unless you go hurtling round bends at 100mph, the handling is fine. Put all your spare cash under the bonnet ;)

Not cheap mind, £400 will get it upto 260bhp but to get it upto 280hp you'll need a couple of thousand more :)

I don't want to lower my LCR and assume my suspension is okay apart from slight squeak now and then from offside front. (55k miles).
But want to improve handling. Have front strut brace.
So ARBs only okay? Can you tell me more on your experience and costs and fitting?

I know that the LCR is the daddy, but what about a 150pd FR?

Uprated, they can (apparently) give an LCR (standard) a run for its money and can achieve late forties mpg real world driving.

I've had an LC PD150 for nearly 3 1/2 years which is a record for me. Despite the Leons short falls - there will always be some - its been a very good car.

I will be spending a couple of grand on it in the next month or two and will probably keep for a further couple of years.

Fitting was done by Star performance in Fife Scotland but in retrospect the Strutt brace and the rear ARB I could have fitted myself. The front needs a ramp as the front sub frame needs dropped. After doing this the alignment/geometery needs checked

Hi Banana Man,ive got front and rear neuspeed ARB fitted with standard LCR suspension and it made a massive improvement in the handling of car,much better than standard.Neuspeed are the most expensive ARB for LCR,i think eibach do them cheaper but think ive heard of clearance problems with rear bar with standard exhaust fitted with them,Neuspeed aint cheap by any means but its a top quality bit of kit and ive had no probs with mine,you can adjust rear bar too,i would think youll need to think about £550 for front/rear bars fitted.I have thought about uprating rest of suspension now with coil overs or koni FSD but to be honest i think its a good set up now so money is going towards front mount intercooler instead.

fyi ive got over 400 miles per a tank many a time. record being 471. Driving like a right old granny.
i usually get 365ish which is 31 mpg for a tankful as it usually takes about 53 litres if you fill up not long after the light comes on.

common faults:
air flow meter, (about £55 exchange) and coil packs. £25-£30 quid.
Some have seen water pump failures, but are not as common as may first appear.
FR+ mayb be a consideration. diesel, got the looks but not the costs.

Well, my LCR has had 2 oil leaks. The low speed fan has packed up. The seat creaks, the suspension creaks, and the clutch is on it's way out at 48k.

The R badges corrode VERY quickly, the brembo caliper lacquer peels off.

All but the oil leaks are VERY common problems on the LCR. So make of that what you will.

EDIT: Oh my gearstick has warn to crap as well.
