too late, already ordered a green cotton panel filter, £40 seemed like good value. So thats £110 + P&P for filter and forge dv, pretty happy with that, ill let you know how it goes when fitted...
Done a bit of a search but haven't been too successful. Decided my LCR doesn't sound beefy enough under acceleration so looking to get an induction kit - anybody got any sound clips of some induction kits for the LCR so I can have a listen? Cheers!
The ramair seems to generally be considered the loudest induction kit but i have to say, its not the sound i want.
I think I just need to bite the bullet and buy a big v8 to replace the lcr.
After trying all sorts of things, I have to agree 110% with Rob. A big open cone does the business. Proven with logs.
I was concerned about a change i made to my filter involving removing the cold air intake feed pipe due to sucking in hot temperatures. I have the Ramair filter on mine, and the cool air feed side of it (the metallic foily pipe) had developed a tiny split probably from constant movement and tighht fit, so i decided to remove it pro-temp.
The noise increase was amazing and i would recommend anyone try it for the sake of 5 mins.., its definetly twice as loud now! The dump valve (forge 007) is a LOT louder, and the intake noise is much louder with the sound of the turbo sucking in the air!
This is the dilemma, ive left the pipe off as it sounds a hell of a lot better without! but i dont really feel any performance issues... it still pulls strong.
As i think RobDon has mentioned before, air exits the turbo at 120+ degrees, so it doesnt matter how hot/cold the air comes in at (not sure if theres any way to back this up?)
Its just the same as running an open cone filter i suppose, but with an open ended housing.
Did you try with bonnet insulation off too? only 5 mins to take off..
No the insulation is still there but i have a relocation kit so my split R is plenty loud enough from outside people hear me fom very far. So have you still got the original plastic air feed in place???
Oh and i take it the metal cover around the filter keeps it cooler than not having one?
When i removed the insulation i found the spool noise much louder, not just the dump valve. Give it a blast, only takes 5 mins! I have the standard air feed plastic parts pointing into the engine bay, but no pipes actually connecting to the entry of the air filter. Difficult to explain, but ill get a pic up at some point.
As for cracking, not sure - each case is different, ive not had any problems, and i think RobDon has had his off for 2 years with no probs? I thought it was mainly for sound deadening more than heat insulation.
I know what you mean but pics will be great too.
Anyways what do you think is best for providing some cooler air in to the engine bay? Air feed 6" from ground or air feed attached behind the headlights like the standard pipe location??
Im really considering leaving the end of the dynatwist unattached to the air feed but instead leaving it pointing towards it, hopefully at least providing some cool air to it!
