we're pretty close to buying a 2nd hand mk2 2.0TDi Stylance.

Are there any specific things that we need to be careful of?

Looking so spend about £12k which seems to get us a 06 with about 15k miles. Is this a good region to be looking at or is it worth spending a little more for fewer miles.

It'll be used for commuting by mrs lard who'll be doing about 60 miles a day on country lanes and a roads.

thanks for any advice

Nothing really major to worry about really.

I've done 36k miles and have a daily motorway commute of 80 miles - not a single thing gone wrong with the engine, brakes, suspension or internals. Pretty much bomb proof.

Performance just get's get better and better as the VAG TDi's like a good 10-15K miles to properly 'run-in'. If you want a smile as wide as your face then I would seriously consider a remap - had mine done at 6k miles and have really enjoyed the extra 60BHP and torques!!! Makes motorway driving so easy, just give it a little nudge in sixth and your very easily doing silly speeds!

Others could possibly tell you another story, but most of us agree the Leon Mk2 is a very fine car.

Get used a short but wisely created first gear.

Get into 2nd reasonably quickly.

Enjoy the wadge of torque as it throws you back in your seat a little as you stomp the pedal.

Realise that the stylance even without options has masses of toys that Audi/VW would charge you for and it still has masses more than other vehicles and still cheaper.

Remember it looks slick and it's a drivers car, so enjoy thrashing it. It loves it.

Great car, cheap but not a poor mans car :)

Just searching through the posts to try and find some answers to my questions. I'm taking mine in for it's 10k service on Thursday.

Did the glovebox rattle issue ever get sorted?

Did the 1 inch wet strip inside the drivers (or passenger window) get sorted?

And i too have just found the post on the stutter.

I'm going to print these three threads out when i find them all and leave them on the seat for the mechanic... :)

Otherwise i think the car is fantastic. Powerful, economical, comfy, an absolute pleasure to drive.

My Dashboard rattle was some loose bolts that hold the dash to the car! Once fixed i've had no problems.
Have now too got the stutter tho! Oh and the wheel bearing noise, and the clutch judder.......
Still love it but dealer will be having it in soon i thinks!

Likewise with comments above. Mine clocked the 35k on the way to work this morning, no problems whatsoever.

For my daily drive the economy (49mpg) and performence suits me so I haven't had mine re-mapped and probably won't.

I have read on US Audi & VW forums that the 2.0 TDI VAG engine isn't fully run-in until 100,000 miles and that you can expect the fuel economy to just keep getting better...

Just remember to use those poncey gloves when you fill up so you don't get oil all over your nice leather steering wheel...

Did you decide to pass on getting a car with BT?

we're still looking for the price we want.

Been offered a 55plate with 8500 mile (ex demo we think) without the mp3 CD system and no bluetooth for £12.5k

want a price under 12k, do you think we're being optimistic - ideally we'll get a red one with around 10k miles and bluetooth. I know we can't be too picky on colour but we're willing to wait a little while.
