Hi. I'm going to buy a tuning box. I know it's no where near as good as a proper remap but for £50 it's got to be worth a try.

Anyway, can anyone tell me what i need to look at to see whether my car needs an 8 or 10 pin box, and where this is. (I have a 1997 mk2 Ibiza TDI 90.)
Thanks.

This is just my opinion, but I'd stay well clear mate. They basically alter the fueling and without any testing to see how its altered it it could make your car run very lean. Yes making it put out more power but over a long period of time actually do harm. Running lean on a turbo car makes it run hot (especially the turbo) and its just undoing what the intercooler is trying its harderst to compensate. Altering the fuel and air ratio with actally knowing what your changing it to is bad imo. Leave it to the experts that have the proper equipment for doing this

I hear what you're saying, and i do agree tbh, but a few people have used them for a good couple of years with no negative effects. My car's been in an accident anyway so i'm keeping it 'till the end of it's life - so there's no point doing a proper remap on it really...

Thanks for the info though. I'll def consider it!

Take this into consideration you can get a remap now for £250 so its not much more than a tuning box.

Also with a remap you will probably get better fuel consumption in the long run so it will eventually pay for itself if your going to keep the car till the end of its life.

I was going to get a Tuning Box because i have an Ibiza and Toledo that both use the same engine, so i could use the same TB for both cars depending on which i drive ;).

I'm not getting it now anyway. The Ibiza is fast enough as it is (for now) and i might be selling the Toledo, so...

Thanks for all the help though.
