How Can I Break My MAF?

As i'm 90% sure my MAF is playing up i need to get it replaced under its VW warranty, problem is they'll only replace it when its completely screwed and throws up a code. That would be fine under normal circumstances, i'd just drive it until it dies but on this occasion i'm reluctant to do that as the MAF seems to be causing missfires which im not all that comfortable with. Is there a sure fire way to destry one on the sly?

Just let me use it for 5 minutes, that usually does the trick.

The car was randomly missfiring last week, unplugging the MAF cured the missfiring and made the car faster.

No not yet as im awaiting a vagcom cable for my laptop. Borrowing a mates laptop at the moment but the battery wont hold charge so i'm limited to my driveway. Cable should be here tomorrow so if i get vagcom registered (£50 irrc?) i'll see if i can figure it out one afternoon this week.

when i tried to replace a maf under warrentyy from VW - they would have to send the maf away to be tested as they dont have the 'facilities' to test ibiza's - they were being stubborn arses and said i had to buy a new one whilst the other was tested -

When i took our Golf over to VW they tested it there and then and replaced it no problem. Might stick the Ibiza's MAF on the Golf when i take it over, just to be safe.

Theyd be alright with a golf as its one of theres -

although just hope they dont check the part number as i think the VW and Seats end in different letters

i tried to take the VW one back and exchange at seat and was told cant do as it was a different part number (the last letter was different)

so fooked out for a new one -

I would but i should get my own cable tomorrow so i may as well do it myself Problem is the dealers wont exchange it if the airflow is down, they'll only change it when its proper screwed, as in the car wont even idle with it plugged in.

Spray it with some filter oil seems that heavily oiled filters send maf`s too the grave

Do the elements have a part number on though? As well as the housing.

When they checked the one on our Golf they just plug it in but will only confirm its screwed when its proper screwed. They're not interested in low airflow or eratic idle. They want dead, completely dead.

Well that sucks, when i can confirm my missfires were maf related it might be worth kicking the maf around the house to cause some vibration damage.
