Hey,

Had my car remapped some months back and dispite some surging issues with light throttle in second gear (has a new firge dv fitted) and recently what seems like clutch slip of a slight hesitation at around 3,100rpm in 4th, 5th, 6th (not sure which the cause is) it goes fine.
Also only get 25mpg and dont drive it too hard.

Had it on a rolling road at the weekend and came out at 192bhp (4886rpm) and 260ft/lbs torque (3096rpm) . Not too happy with the bhp but torque figure is nice.
After this torque peak it drops off fairly quickly and graph is not smooth but slightly bouncy, same for bhp curve. Also a slight dip in bhp curve at 3100rpm at the peak torque point. dunno why.

Anyway, guy reckoned the MAF was an issue for the graph not being so smooth and for my low mpg, and possibly the surging.
Am looking into getting the maf and have been quoted €300! for the bosch normal one.

I noticed at www.webcon.co.uk you can now get a Magneti-Marelli Mass Air Flow Sensor for the car for 49.75 pounds.

Looks like if would be good enough.
Anyone know about these or used them? Would you advise me not to get one?

Magneti Marelli stuff is usually good, they have a reputation to protect. I'd try one.

I think my MAF may be on it's way out, when I get my finger out and do some logging it will confirm....

would be good to see if there are any different MAF's - and hey - if MAF killer DPJ says to try one then it only makes sense! ;)

Did you ever try the MAF? One tihing i'm interested in is the low MPG, i'm getting around 40mpg when i calculate, usually working out at 400/450miles per tank. 1.9PD TDI with 32k.

Yeah I got a new maf but went for an exchange part from Seat.

Regret it now though as i dont think there was anything wrong with it.
The surging and clutch slip was down to the mapping i had on the car which has recently been redone and both symptoms gone and is running much smoother and better now.

Only thing though, when i installed the maf my mpg went from 25 down to 23mpg and then on the following tank down to 21mpg!!
So changing the maf actually made my mpg far worse for some reason.
Then i got the remap changed and is back at 25mpg but I do wonder if I had my old maf would the mpg with the new remap be up near 30.

Still my mpg is very low and I have no idea why. I know someone who has the same car and he is getting a hundred miles more per tank than i am.
I hit around 270 miles at the 1/8 tank left level.
I just have no idea why i am getting such poor fuel economy (I dont drive it hard much at all)

I have driven hard, easy, normal in all conditions, motorway a roads etc and still get the same mpg! 400miles a tank form a 1.9tdi is pretty crap saying others getting upto 600! I dont have vag-com and dont get much respone from vag-com section on requests but logs would be interestig to compare them with someone getting miles.

Maf problems

i know you found the problem was mapping but for other people who have similar problems make sure you are using a dry filter and not an oil one like the K&N as the MAF`s dont like it if the oil hits them, it cooks on the wires inside the MAF and messes the sensors so your air/fueling will be out. Hope this helps someone :D

My engine intakes, exhausts, everything is standard! No mods to engine.....yet! Would love to know what is causing it? Boost, fueling, MAF, EGR. I do have what i think is wuite a bit of oily residue in the inlet pipe to EGR (large black pipe top left of head?).
