Front Seats (Electric) loose - how do I adjust/tighten?

Hey all,

Tried a search, but I get this error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 82 bytes) in /var/www/web1/web/forums/includes/functions.php on line 51

Anyway, my front passenger seat (leather/electric if it matters) appears to be a bit loose - it wobbles/rattles when i drive over uneven surfaces or bumps. (Common in these areas lol) I've sat in the seat and I can tilt the seat forward/backward.

I've looked underneath, but can't really see how I'd go about tightening it up.

Does anyone have any hints/tips on what to do, or where exactly to look?

Thanks

Hi mate,

Thanks for the reply :) Appreciate it.

The whole seat seems to wobble. The rattle noise seems to be coming from under the seat itself. I think the seat is not tight enough on the framework below it, if that makes sense...?

When someone sits in the seat and I have to brake hard, or slow down quickly, you can see the whole seat tilt forward slightly.

Thanks

I had a look on Etka but I couldn't find any diagrams for our electric seats to see what the mounting bolts are. I think I'd just start with a feel round by hand on the runners and then above. Failing that, have a word with someone who's swapped seats (Unclefester?) :)

yeh, I've been poking around for ages now, but can't seem to find anything to tighten. It almost looks like the bar that locates into the runners has some play in it, but I could well be wrong.

I'll speak to Pat when I get some broadband access at home :)

I suspect it might be the runners themselves - enough time being slid back and forth may cause a wear point around the bit your seat most frequently locks into.

I say this as mine is doing it too, my seats are out of a 2001 VW Golf and the drivers seat is the one that does it. I've not found a way to fix it however i've also not looked. I know if i lock it into a different position on the sliders the seat feels like it's fixed properly.

Suspect it might be a case of lifting the seat cover off the foam, remove the foam and then be able to see what lies beneath.

I'll try and have a look at mine this weekend as it's starting to annoy me too. It's easy enough to unbolt the front of the seat and lift the whole seat back on itself to check - battery off before you unplug the airbag loom and connect them before you put the battery back on :)

thanks mate - I've finally got BB at home now (and at nearly 2MB too) so I'm a happy bunny again!

What you said makes sense - it seems to be better now I've moved the seat into a different position. I'll try and look more when I've sorted the garage out lol!

Hi mate, does it feel like its moving on a pivit point at the back of the seat? i have this with mine,it went back to SEAT endless times about it,by all accounts "its just what they do" is what i was told. I find if you lay the base of the seat flat it takes the wobble out, stoopid i know but it worked on mine.

As someone suggested, it is a common enough problem caused by wear and tear to the nylon guides/wheels that traverse the runners. It's a little difficult to diagnose as the seats are quite heavy and awkward to keeping wrenching around trying to replicate the movement :)

Either replace the runner guides or take a block and hammer to the runners themselves and gently 'adjust' the clearance lol.

damn, problem seems to be getting worse again. The missus won't stop moaning about it :(
Wonder if I can figure out how to sort it.

Strange how it is the passenger seat, and not drivers seat.... (which is obviously used far more often)

Dump the missus, problem solved :)

that unfortunately incurrs extra problems - like who is going to pay the other half of the mortgage/bills etc! :p

I THINK I've sorted it (well, it's not a fix) but I've messed around with the position of the seat this afternoon while sitting in it - and I've found a position that seems to be ok - so as long as nobody messes with the controls it'll be ok!
